Thank you, Stone. I think the "smooth" skin you are seeing is principally the effect of the very narrow depth-of-focus coupled with the bokeh of the petzval lens design. Wet plate imagery can be blisteringly sharp under the right conditions.

I'm sure it can, I'm of course looking at it on my phone, but the face with smooth skin SEEMS very smooth, but I'll take your word that it's your lens doing it

Someday I'll get my hands on a Petzval at a reasonable price that I can add a shutter too (copal 3 perhaps?) for my 4x5 field camera. I like blending old and modern for convenience rather than find an old camera with it's own shutter, or doing the lens cap shutter thing, but that's my own crazyness. Lol. Good job!

I've done that very thing. Works great, though I'm still learning.
