Fantastic
To answer your question, 1 tray for each bath (presoak, dev, stop, fix, ect) I would use 11x14 or 12x16, about 2.5-3 liters of solution per tray.
There is a learning curve for tray development,...
You could probably just take the glass out and sell the shutter for about as much as the whole thing.
They will get the job done, and are usually priced right. I dont mind a heavy camera if the weight means a solid stable camera, my B&J just has the weight. I tend to swear at mine.
I was able to get a 305 Kodak Portrait lens in a #5 Universal on a 4" board. I think I had to shim it off the board about 1/4" to get it on the camera ( a 5x7 deardorff). I dont remember it being to...
Not a photographer, but I once payed several hundred dollars for a portfolio review by someone well known in the art buying world. I didnt make a new negative afterwards for at least a year.
I have one of the f10 17" copying ektanons and it is sharp, contrasty enough for the alt process printing I do, and easily covers 11x14 with room to move. I love mine and it was cheap to boot.
brush development might be a good idea if your already doing one sheet at a time face up, if you have a DBI light all you need is a cheap hake brush.
The hunting type blinds tend to have enough windows to see/shoot out of that condensation isnt a problem in practice.
Sleeping on snow with no sleeping bag? Ouch!
The blinds do warm up nicly in the sun, and keep the wind at bay to a degree. Small propane heaters used in icefishing houses would be nice early and late in the day. I like a wool suit and/or a...
If you are shooting up with 35mm or similar gear look for a blind designed for hunting ducks or geese with openings for shooting up. If you are shooting in a more horizontal way, the Ameristep...
I just make sure the lens caps are on when when not in use. I dont use any UV filters to protect lenses, just treat them with respect.
If its really cold, dont even fight it, just carry a little windshield scraper, and use a big heavy darkcloth around you to warm up.
God I miss cold winters.
As I recall, an aplant is basically a rapid rectilliner design, and the coverage should far exceed the needs of either format, althought I dont know the degree of coverage. I have a 15" Voigtlander...

12-18 inches are about right for 8x10. A fast 16" Petzval type lens would historically be correct, and be really sweet for shooting too. If you are other wise set up for 8x10, it wont be a very...
Give the JML a shot as a taking lens, you may be very happy.
Bellows draw on larger formats and distance to subject on the smaller.
16" in 8x10, 12" in 5x7
I think the Beach is a real sweetie. If you have not yet, you must try a kodak portrait lens. Of course you'll just drive the prices up.....
I use to work in an electron miscroscopy lab that had an an atomic force microscope that some claimed (and others disagreed) could image a single atom. The whole apparatus was situated between two...
Check with commerical swimming pools supply houses where ever you live. Look for thte ones by the railroad tracks. They will also have sodium sulfite and carbonate as well as other goodies.
Cats love hot lights, forget the strobes. Its a real test of how well you can let sleeping dogs (or the kittys) lie while setting up.
There could be more play in your shutter than the miscalculation you are worried about. I bet it will be fine.
Wrapping the bellows in an opaque dark cloth will let you use it as is. Probably want to put some black tape where the back connects to the camera as well, and keep the back covered with a dark cloth...
I know Rick does a lot of swap shows, he could be on the road.
Guess there is just no telling, I always got over dense edges tray processing, not to mention the scratches......
What developer were you using to get the surge marks?
Brian, If you are happy using the hangers and tanks, consider using Pyrocat HD, I have found perfectly even development if a water soak is used first. I think uneven edge development was the problem...
One thing noone has mentioned is the sheer physical difficulty of dealing with 11x14 and bigger. Everything is big, heavy, and cumbersome. Depth of field challanges enter a new league, and darkroom...
I either leave the film in the holders, with a piece of tape over the dark slides to keep the dark in, or if I need to shoot more film, transfer it to a film box, either in a dark room (not...
I just finished off a liter of PyrocatHD I mixed in 4/04, for the last year it sat about 1/4 full, with nothing to slow down oxygination, no marbels, no nitrogen, nothing. It performed as well as the...
If complaints about a film developer were the criteria for its usefullness, D76 would have to be put in the catogory of utterly useless, as I bet all of us have screwed up a roll of film or two in it...
I have to say I have found Pyrocat hd to be anything but a delicate developer. I think I could mix working solutions from polluted Mississippi River water and get aceptable results. ABC in...
The grung will never go into solution, but thats ok, it will work just fine. You will have to heat it to about 125f to get it to tone. I like to use a water bath with 2 larger trays forming a clam...
DJ summed it up nicely. You will spend alot more time at the hardware store and a lot less at the camera shop.
I have 2 old cameras that had holes in the bellows for the air hose. Not recommonded, but an option.
A lot is going to depend on how large a lens you want to hang on the camera. A Galliesque f4 16" petzval is going to need at least a 6 1/2x 6 1/2 shutter with a 3 1/2" hole. It will laso need a lens...
Or just throw caution to the wind and get an f4 16" petzval and shoot wide open. If your going to build it 3/4 " plywood is fine material, as is a 9 or 10 " lens board.
Lots of good info here.
