First thing to do is to announce on the Internet that you own one. Why don't you mention how much you paid for it, too?

The 5x7 cut film holders will fit directly on a half-plate camera without any adaption. However, there will be a little cutoff on the long end of the negative so its more like 5x6.5".
Nagaoka 4x5 (except for very early ones) use Technika lens boards.
Unless you're making Clyde Butcher size prints, the purpose of Large Format cameras isn't to get sharper negatives, it's to enjoy the LF experience. Setting up the tripod, having a large enough...
Yes there are studies (of similar situations, I don't know of any on the enlarger). Until fatigue sets in, standing is more efficient, thus presumably you also get better prints. A good...
There's a 5x7 piece of Kodak Opal glass on eBay this morning. Bill
O. Winton Link? Died last year.
K2, G, A, and X1. (Does my age show?)
I bought the same set-up from eBay from a Linhof Technika. Luckily the seller took it back, as Linhof furnished a little gizmo attached to the lensboard to hold it open, which had been "removed".
Right angle finders for the Leica were the early WINKO (image reversed right to left) and later WINTU (unreversed image). These were standard Leitz catalog items. The camera was pointed at the ...
I stand corrected, and apologize to anyone I offended with the post. Perhaps my original impression of "one good troll deserves another" did not apply. At any rate, I shall try to avoid posting...
None of these lenses is actually very good. They were high priced and probably okay when new, but have all been superceeded by later models, most with multi-coating. I am sorry you are stuck with...
Unfortunately, it sounds likely. Bill (Sarasota, FL)
While Agfa Multicontrast doesn't look like Portriga, It seems to have the same characteristics that make P.R. such a pleasure to use. In the absence of P.R. I believe that if you try Multicontrast...
Yes, it will be worth it. Stopped down, Angulons can be quite sharp across the entire field. A 90mm barely covers 4x5, but the 120 should give you plenty of room. Enjoy.
It's a LOT less expensive, too. No Fresnel. It's plenty sturdy.
I don't think so.
Not even close.
Forget the darkroom, you're not missing anything worth knowing, and it takes serious time away from shooting.
If you mean the combination of impressive technology with pedestrian image making, you're probably right. Same as always.
Don't forget if you need a little more "straightening" you can do it in the enlarger by tilting the easel a little. Also, if you over- correct, which is more common than you would think, you can...
Cost of colour.
RENT FIRST! Large format ain't for everyone.
I bought Burkholder's book, and found it completely confusing, and the proceedure much too complicated.
I just did a Google search and answered my own question. All I can say is WOW!!!!
Any of his work on the web?
It ain't the format, it's the G.D. tripod!
I guess that I failed to make my point. Despite the almost immediate replacement of Daugerrotype photography, it took almost another 50 years before the negative/positive process actually began to...
Imagine yourself in the 1850s. You are a successful Degarreotype photographer, and all the magazines are full of articles about Fox- Talbot's negative/positive process. You could make more than...
Not everyone can be a master. It would be a sad world if only Rubensteion and Horowitz and other legends could play Mozart and Beethovan. Most people who play the piano do it for their own ...
The 10" and 15" Tele-Raptar (tele-Optar) are excellent lenses, quite inexpensive, and don't require excessive bellows extension.
What are the chances of combining a trip to Fotofest and seeing the wildflowers? (And not finding myself in the middle of a tornado, or flash floods, etc. I wanted to go last year, but the weather...
Unfortunately, the Polaroid backs for both sizes of pack film are slightly too thick to be used in a Busch model D spring back. The ones for single sheets do work fine, of course.
At this time of year, in that part of the country, it's best to do darkroom work.
Bob, have you actually tried using a Grafmatic? I just made a trip through the Midwest and took only my Busch model D and three Grafmatics, and everything worked perfectly. Also, FYI I used only...
Stick with the double CFH (since you say that you're happy with them). They are the least expensive, the most trouble-free, and by far the easiest. I'm personally partial to the old Graflex...
Most of his early, non-studio work including the wonderful Mexican portraits and the nudes were shot with a 3 1/4x4 1/4 Graflex. I never thought his later work with the 4x5 Graflex was nearly as ...
I don't understand. Why is this a problem?
What a delightful education this thread has provided. I wonder how much of the technical differences expressed here is due to one group (Weston/Smith) making prints by contact, and the other...
