Aristo cold light for Omega D2

Just blew a capacitor on my aristo cold light source on my Omega D2 enlarger.
Found out Thur, (7-30-09) Aristo is out of business.
Does anyone have a wiring diagram that shows the resistor value for the resistor that is attached to one leg of the capacitor?

I have managed to track down all the parts I need but the resistor blew apart and I cannot read the color bands.

If you have an Aristo unit for the D2, and if you could open it up and let me know the color on the resistor that would be cool too.

    Thanks,
    Gary

I have a D2 and the Aristo cold light. I'll be happy to take mine apart but it won't be for a day or two as I'm in the middle of replacing the kitchen stove which I'm sure has a slightly higher priority. :-o (Unless of course you want me to sleep with one eye open for the forseeable future)

Thanks, no need to compromise you rest.
FYI, on my journey to fix the issues with my Aristo I have discovered that Ariso may very well be a distant memoir. When I called Thursday the entire staff... President on down had been summarily fired... effective immediately. Everything at the companies locked down until the lawyers/judges have sorted out the details. Aristo. and it parent Co.(Voltarc) have been taken over by a company in Orange CT called LSI. I spoke to an LSI executive this morning and he doesn't think the Aristo products will be continued.

I have called B&H and every other distributer I could think of to find a replacement unit but no one (that I could find) stocks the units.

So... any ideas on finding replacement units/parts? Do you now of any other cold light source manufactures?

Maybe when all is sorted out a few units will surface. I would hate to have to print w/o a cold light source.

    Best,
    Gary

My Aristo may be different then yours, but the bulb is connected right to the transformer and the transformer is connected right to the mains. So, no resistors or capacitors in there.

There are 'heating' resistors in the separate heating circuit. Is that what is out?

Sorry, I was not clear on the part.

There are two wires that enter the unit.

The first wire (the thermo, three pronged wire) is plugged directly into the wall.
It connects to a temperature controlling device which uses a capacitor and a resistor (attached to the main body of the unit) before entering the coil.

The second wire is a two strand wire that plugs into the timer. it is wired to a capacitor and a resistor before entering the coil. Each leg of the capacitor is attached to each strand of the wire. On one leg of the capacitor a resistor has been soldered between the capacitor leg and the wire strand. That resistor is literally toast.

My assumption is that the resistor was placed there to keep the capacitor from blowing up my timer... only allowing voltage to travel in one direction.

I have been able to trace down all the electronic components to replace except the resistor wired to the timing wire capacitor...

    Hope that makes sense.
    Thanks for your reply.

If the device is soldered between the two hot wires from the mains then it could be a MOV (metal oxide varistor; surge protector). A resistor in that location will merely produce heat.

A picture would be worth a thousand words.

Here are pictues of my unit, is there any similarity?

    Gary:

I took mine apart but there is no resistor in my unit. The only components in the unit are a large dual coil transformer, a small capacitor and what looks to be a thermal cutout switch. My unit is about 30 years old, I bought it new. My unit is all contained in the round aluminum can with the lamp, nothing else. Yes there is are two 120 VAC plugs.

I could send a picture if that would help.

    John/all

    Here are a few photos.
As you can see the capacitor is attached ti the incoming two strand wire from the timer. the resistor has almost disintegrated. the first two bands seem to be yellow and grey...

    Thanks again for you help,
    Gary

Your looks to be much newer than mine. I don't have anything like that. I have just a small disc capacitor. Everything looks different.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Actually, Gary's Aristo cold light is one of the first models.

It's has the original electrical components. Later models were made with transistorized components. Much more compact and simple. Less effected by high temperatures.
