On May 12, 2018 I debuted what I feel is a one of a kind book containing limited edition fine art prints.
My book is titled Survivors I and it is the story of my journey in 2007 in Yosemite National Park. I found that I was drawn to the Black Oaks and their struggle to survive in the valley. I started west of Camp 4 on the Rim or Northside Trail and worked the entire day all the way to the Mirror Lake cutoff. I exposed twelve sheets of 8x10 film and eight of the prints are in the first edition of a series which I hope to have a total of three volumes.
I've done everything in this book. The prints are bound in original carbon transfer prints. The text is also printed in carbon transfer! A first of its kind I believe. It is a very difficult task to clear pigment from small letters but I succeeded and the edition looks great. The text is printed on fine art watercolor paper as are the printed images. This was the only way I could see this project being presented. It took me eleven years to make this dream come true. The book is housed in a custom clamshell case and includes a portfolio of two original signed carbon prints suitable for framing along with the book. A collectors edition for sure.
The book along with 29 carbon prints is on display at LightBox Gallery in Astoria Oregon and if you are in the area you should check it out.
I'll post some images from the opening and I hope to have video's of my talk and the book presentation up soon.
Thanks.
