Indeed, it is marvelous.

Thanks, Jim, I'll pass along the compliment! The young man was taken with a 12" Wollensak Velostigmat on 4x5, with the soft focus set waaaaay past where it normally stops. (I removed the set screw that restricts it.)
(I'd really like to find the 15" version of that lens...)
The other two were taken on 8x10 with a Cooke 12.5" f/3.5, but I don't know where they set the soft focus adjustment...

First fruits from the Tonopah Workshop. It was cold and windy so we asked to use the courtroom in the Esmeralda Cty courthouse for a portrait workshop session. Per Volquartz set up this shot with natural north window lighting. I took advantage of his set-up and used the 2D 8X10 with Hermagis Eidoscop #2 @ f5.6. Focus was at the tip of the eye glasses.

Really nice band image, reminds me of some of the images of The Eagles.
A lovely one, Jim, one of your best portraits ever, (and that's saying something!)
And Matthew, it's inspiring that someone can still show us something so new and wonderful in a field so well-explored as photographic portraiture.
