Hi Bob,
I just got a Kardan Super Color 4 x 5.
The serial number is: 8021092
What year was it manufactured, and what were the range of years for this Kardan model?
Thank you,
Jan/Feb 1978
As the SC JBL 45 (your camera, the original SC had a round rail) it was made from Sep. 1977 to 1982. But it is actually still made. The current Kardan re is virtually the same as your camera save for a different monorail profile and improved rise locks and a re-positioning of the rear standard U mounts to allow full insertion of film holder with more extreme tilts with the back in landscape position.
When your camera was made Linhof made an accessory Polaroid Spacer for the back to get full horizontal tilt without film holder insertion but the need for that spacer disappeared with later models with the re-positioned U frame in the rear.
You're a great resource Bob, thank you.

3431119

That serial number is for the last series of the Linhof Color 6.5x9 camera from about 1968. It was not a 67 camera although you could mount a 67 roll back to it. Linhof's 67 cameras were a fixed lens, non-bellows series called the 220. They started with a serial number of 3511050. Linhof also made an interchangeable lens series of 67 cameras called the Aero Press, the Aero Electric and the Press 70 in the 70's. The Technika 70 was also a 6.5x9cm camera that could take 67 roll film backs.
Information and specifications on your camera is in the Linhof Camera Story book from Linhof.
