    Epson 3880 paper kinks

Has anyone else noticed a kinking of a corner of the paper with the 3880?
Its always the trailing edge, and the side away from the control panel and only with A2 sized paper.
At the moment it doesn't matter as I trim it off anyway but it is concerning.
I'm assuming some feed roller wear or something, the printer is about 9 months old.
I'll contact Epson as a last resort but last time I logged an issue they never responded.
    cheers

    I had a similar problem.

I took a look at the paper I was using (Photo Rag 308) and found that it curled up toward the head.

My solution was to "de-roll" the paper before I ran it through the machine. Once I started doing that I've had no problems.

My paper (Canson Baryta 310gsm) seems pretty flat.
It is getting hot and humid here at the moment though so maybe thats a factor.

    Re: Epson 3880 paper kinks

I'm wondering if the following could be the reason.

The 3880 does not have a vacuum to keep the paper flat, so that towards its trailing end, the paper can lift and be caught by the head. I find this to be a disturbing situation, because the paper can potentially strafe and damage the underside of a head. On my 3880, I take care to use a discarded spool to curl the paper in the opposite direction, so that it has less inclination to lift towards the end of printing.

I was a little surprised that the 3880 doesn't have a vacuum to keep the paper flat and didn't learn of this until after my purchase. But, the 3880 is sort of a budget priced printer that gives excellent results. So, I don't mind putting up with this minor inconvenience.

    Neil,

I think you're right on. It's another reason to "de-roll" the paper. Wearing cotton gloves take the paper and just roll it loosely backward at the corner once or twice. It should be enough to "pull" the paper down away from the head.

That sounds like a good habit to get into. I'll give it a try, thanks.
