Capture.
Because it is used utterly bass-ackwards. The term "capture" evolved to describe what a digital sensor does to an oncoming image but actually what happens is non-capture. Sure, the photons hit the sensor but they are rapidly transduced into electrical signals that are kicked out of the sensor as a data stream. The sensor returns to its initial state and retains nothing.
Film on the other hand does capture and retain the incoming image. Film is heavier after exposure than before. It's just that we never thought of it that way.

OMG! I don't believe it... another non-TV watcher. Congratulations. Maybe we should start a "support group." But please don't mention it to Rick Denny...
The number of hours I've watched TV in the last 10-years can be counted on one hand with fingers left over. In fact, my TV is for DVD use only... no antenna or cable hooked up. My ex was the TV junkie. She used to record Dr. Phil on VCR for endless playback.
Always insisting that I was so much like "this, that, or the other" quack that he had on at any one moment.
I guess quacks attract quacks don't they.
If anyone needs any Dr Phil re-runs I'll be happy to put them in touch....

All natural images are analog. But the retina converts them to digital on their way to the brain.
Nothing beats a great piece of glass!
I leave the digital work for the urologists and proctologists.
I'm not sure what exactly is a "diggi-snapper", but it does sound like a very promising candidate for another entry for this thread...
I once posted a photo of an antelope on a "nature" forum, and said I shot it.... I got an angry response saying, "You photo'd the antelope; you didn't shoot it." I replied, "The hell I didn't. I photo'd it, and then I shot it. And then......... I ate it!" (I am an avid hunter on the Northern Plains here.)
