As a side note, my experience at the nearby Kennedy Lake during a late September 2007 evening was not as wondrous as yours, because a mother Black Bear surprised me along the shoreline, causing me to dive quickly into the lake and seek immediate security among the isolated piers just off shore. Her two young cubs frolicked behind her along the shoreline, where mother bear continuously exercised her right to strike my backpack from one end of the beach to the other, and showed her complete dislike for my immediate presence by repeatedly bounding from side to side on her front paws.

My female opponent that evening kept me in the cool water for more than one hour.

I shall show the pier image one day...

Maybe next time take a naked lady for protection, it obviously works. If it does not at least when you both jump into the river you would have something to warm you up.

Re: What did you compose at Water’s Edge?

Flipping again through an older portfolio of prints, I ran across this one that I had quite forgotten about. A view of the Waccamaw River upriver of Georgetown, SC, looking downstream from what had been a prominent 19th century rice plantation. If you look really, really closely in the river about mid-way back, you can see the remains of posts that had been part of the water control system. As I recall, this was my first real documentation job, so running across this print brought back wonderful memories of a glorious October day in SC (and oh, that barbeque sandwich for lunch, sitting on a dock along the edge of the river...yum...).

Unless plans changed since I was there, this is now the marina for a tony subdivision.

4x5, Schneider 150 lens (the only one that I had at the time!), Ilford Delta 100, and no records whatever of exposure information...

I just started down the scanning path and this is my first scanned image. Hopefully I'll get the hang of it.

Ric, That is a very nice shot. I love the pastels and the muted tones, and the symmetry. I'd love to see it larger - I think the web presentation doesn't do it any favors.

A couple from Salton Sea last year...

The first is a crop from a 4x5... I actually had a light leak on this negative but it only affected the piling on the left for some strange reason. The density in the wwater was not affected???

Second is a crop from an 8x10 negative.

Taken on MacKenzie Beach, west coast of Vancouver Island.
This is a neg scan, "toned" in photoshop to resemble the 11x14 print I made. The highlights aren't blown in the print.
