Thread: The standard Large Format process...

Re: The standard Large Format process...

I guess my wife has become mellow over the years. She can come home to find me behind the 8X10 with a nude young woman laying on the piano and only remind me to be done before the kids come home so they can practice. At least in that case I can't forget the film.

Sure...the sugar rush makes the alcohol go a long way...especailly on an empty stomach (no lunch in the schedule, though I might toss a food bar or two into the camera pack).

Hmmm. Step #31 is suppose to be just 1 step? It's about 15 for me.

How about pulling out the wrong dark slide?
    Shooting without removing the darkslide?
or are those too common to mentioin?
oh yes, trying to do an incidental meter reading with the meter set to read spot.
using a .9ND filter thinking it was a polarizer (talk about not paying attention).
Noticing that a slight drizzle has left a couple drops of water on your filter...after you have taken your shot!

There's no schedule for those. Can happen anytime of day. Fit in where possible.

    You missed one Garry...

Using one LF camera primarily in a damp climate, then taking it to a sunny climate. One sets the camera up, focuses, slips in he film holder. And as you are waiting for the light to be perfect, the sun shining on the bellows caused the moisture inside to heat up and deposits a thick layer of fog on the back of the lens!

If one is lucky, one sees the steam while composing/focusing...if not lucky, one wonders why a particular neg seems so out of focus and soft! When I leave Humboldt County, I try to set up the camera in the sun without the back or lens on to let it dry out a little.

Cool Re: The standard Large Format process...

I accidentally pulled the darkslide with a lenscloth over the lens. Problem was the lenscloth was white. I had it there to try and keep the drizzle off the lens.

I had this one about 2 months ago... Drive 3 1/2 hours across a mountain range and a desert, find the shot you were looking for, pull out the gear and set up only to find you forgot to replace the ground glass insert on the camera when fiddling with it the night before so you have no way to focus... Luckily I had my 6x17 back with its seperate focusing rig so it wasn't a total loss...
