    Robb Kendrick in National G.

There is a very interesting b&w tintype portfolio by Robb Kendrick in the December issue of National Geographic. Very different for NG. The images are from his new book "Still:Cowboys at the start of the 21st Century". Boy talk about a subject that has been done to death, but his images are refreshing and unique.
    Thanks,
    Kirk

I haven't seen the print version of the magazine yet, but there seems to be an overview of his photos on the National Geographic website here:

    Very nice stuff, indeed.

Met Rob at the "Shooting the West " convention in Nevada. It is interesting that the chosen cover portrait, that of a young Nevada girl, for NG publication on 100 years of NG portraits was one Rob did using the tintype process I believe he is in South America continuing tintype projects....maybe he will up date us here, he has posted over on APUG. I recommend Rob's book, "Revealing Character" . published by Bright Sky Press...Rob's Texas tintype project.

I saw his tin type show at the Cowgirl Hall of Fame in Fort Worth last year. Very nice show had a video on continuous loop that explained the tintype process. The book that Dave Wooten recommends get a high five from me also.

If offered the choice between a Kendrick and an Avedon, the choice would take, oh, say a millisecond- the Kendrick would win hands down. Working within highly limiting self imposed boundaries, his creativity shines through- no formulas here. I dare say he may be one of the finest living portraitists today- and he sure knows how to pick a striking sitter.

The video can be seen also at National Geographic website In a recent photo annual that contained some of his images, it stated he had moved to San Miguel de Allende. Maybe Jorge can confirm this.

I have an artist friend that lives in San Miguel and she says he lives in the same barrio. He is not around much and they have not made contact yet.

He had mentioned that that he was moving his family to Mexico. He also posted on APUG requesting info on getting chemistry etc for projects in S. America...
