Brian, BTW Midwest also has free shipping on the 3800 and they may have some free paper as well (not sure on the paper).

The 3800, by an overwhelming consensus, is a first rate machine within its limitations of size paper feed etc. It is a culmination of much of Epson's successful technology to date at an entry level price.

Thanks Ted, I had a horrible experience with trying to return a defective scanner that I bought from B&H and I avoid dealing with them whenever possible so I appreciate the information about MidWest. I didn't know about their free shipping until your message. I ordered the printer from MidWest today (no free paper but that's fine, I wasn't expecting that). Much rather deal with MidWest than B&H.

Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you do criticize them you'll be
a mile away and you'll have their shoes.
As to the build quality - feh... I've had an Epson 1280 since soon after they came out. It's even "plasticy-er" than the 3800 and it's still cranking away. I like the fact that the 3800 is much lighter (less than 1/2 the weight) and more compact than either the 4800 or ipf5000. I don't miss the roll feeder at all and the 3800 is capable of printing up to 37" long prints - more than I'll ever need.
Also look at http://www.itsupplies.com/ and http://www.techonweb.com for best prices and free shipping.
atlex.com also has a good price
