Question Removing Sinar lens board to mount deardorff lens board on a Kodak universal 5 shutte

    Hi everyone,

I’ve been searching around for info on this topic without any results.
Please share your knowledge if you know how to correctly remove a Sinar board from a Kodak universal #5 shutter. I also need to figure out how to mount it on a dear ford board.

    Thank you for your help

A picture of the back of the Sinar board with lens might help us see if the mounting flange is attached in the usual manner to the front with screws (or glued maybe as Randy suggests.) Nice looking relatively late production Commercial Ektar, 1964 by the "OE" at the beginning of the serial number.

Ilex #5 shutters came with a retaining ring. This ring is normally mounted onto a lens board using screws. They may have used small bolts instead because the Sinar board is metal. Remove both front and rear lens cells from the shutter. You should turn them counter clockwise to remove them. Then remove the shutter from the board by also turning counter clockwise. After the shutter is removed you can take the screws or bolts out of the retaining flange and remount it to a Deardorff lens board.

After years of a shutter being attached to a board they are sometimes stuck and you really have to twist hard. If you have strong arms this should work. If absolutely necessary, some recommend using something like PB Blaster to loosen them up. Take the plastic cap off the PB Blaster can and spray a little into the cap. Then maybe take a Q-Tip and drip it into the threads of the flange on the back side of the lens board. PB Blaster can be found at the local automotive store. It is great for loosening rusty bolts on cars. Wipe away any PB Blaster left after separating the shutter from the lens board.

Good luck! You have a great lens there.

Here is a picture of a flange in the first picture. You can see the small holes in it for mounting it to a lens board with screws. It's hard to see in the picture but there are threads in the large center hole that the shutter screws into. The second picture is a retaining ring used with more modern shutters.

That's a Norma board. Let's see the back side of it. Are there screws going through the board? That should provide the necessary info.

Thank you for all the responses! What a great forum!
A photographer friend here in Sweden said I should put the lens with board and shutter in the freezer over night and then try unscrewing it. I did and it worked! Crazy advise but sometimes they work too I guess

I’ve attached some pictures of the back of the plate and of the lens just taken out of the freezer.

OK now use screwdriver (and pliers to hold down nuts) and remove screw and bolts.

Then remount the ring to your new board.
