It may be because we don't see much of winter where I live, but I think you have something interesting here.

How long ago was the pre-flash? I hear that the effect fades with time if not actually exposed/processed, but I have never seen anything to show the behavior.

July 2015. That's just a little embarrassing to confess. The paper edge that was covered in the holder is pure black, so I think the preflash probably faded. A year and a half may be too long to wait. On the other hand, the paper didn't fog after all that time and the surface wasn't bothered by my clumsy actions in cutting and loading it.

Another 4x5 coffee-can pinhole at f256, 12.5 minute exposure. (Preflashed a long time ago, then forgotten in a film holder) You'll have to imagine some faint cloud detail; my desktop scanner can't retain that very well. These Harmon pinholes seem to capture my mood these days, so I'm going to preflash some more and work on a series for awhile.

On preflashing: The last two images that I've posted were preflashed 18 months ago. Now I see that the preflash did not fade even after all this time. Originally, I preflashed after loading the paper in 4x5 holders. Then I exposed them this last week in the pinhole camera. Look at the left edge and you can see the film holder edge clearly from the preflash. There's a huge effect in bringing up the darker values. Thanks again to Joe V and others for advice along these lines.

Really like these images from John, well done. I'm inspired me to go out and shoot with this medium again.

Thanks, and it works best in overcast skies, which we have a lot of around here. Just don't forget the preflashing. Good luck.
