"I actually think that gives the mountains massive scale."
I think that if one wants to show scale he/she will place something that is familiar next to something else to show a difference. Or to put it another way, to show scale. I think that if one wanted to show the grandeur and size of a mountain one would place things that are smaller in the photo next to the mountain to emphasize scale rather than something that is larger in the photo. Otherwise the scale may seem off.
This is one of those rare photographs that are so pleasing that they should be enjoyed, not merely analyzed.
