What is the worst piece of large format gear?

Recessed lens boards in which it is impossible to adjust the lens controls. Similarly, a Copal #3 lens mounted on a Technika-sized board, such that the slide fastener which holds in the board interferes with the lens controls.

    Ball heads.

P.S. Dang, Tim, I was just appreciating my 8x10 BTZS yesterday morning. One man's poison...

Just what I was thinking CXC - I thoroughly enjoy using my arca swiss B1 and acratech ballheads for 4x5 or 8x10 - those geared things annoy the heck out of me unless I'm photographing small artifacts... :-)

"Why can't they be fourescent red so they are never left behind."

Gepe-Pro makes cable releases up to 40" long in red, white, blue and black PVC coverings.

I second recessed lens boards. Also cheap cable releases that come apart in the field (never again!).....

The current Linhof oo1015 Recessed lens board has an aperture selector and scale on the front surface of the board itself as well as a press focus control with a red indicator dot on the surface of the board. Makes them very easy to use.

A Copal 3 shutter on the proper board, properly installed on the board should not interfere with the lock on a Technika. If your does you should have it checked by Marflex.

I confess that none of my equipment is Linhof; that's why I made a point of saying Technika-SIZED boards. I'm glad that Linhof has addressed these issues.

It remains the case that Copal #3's are huge, and I wish that #2 had survived instead.
