This shot is on 4x5 Portra 160 with a Nikkor 300mm lens. The color negative was scanned as a positive with all color correction turned off and then converted with the Color Perfect plug-in using the Portra 160 film setting. No other curves or color corrections were made. Amazingly, of all the shots I've made on color film (almost all transparency), this is the most accurate representation of the colors of the Grand Canyon that I think I've ever shot. Granted, the shot is no piece of art and as all of us do, I shoot almost always during the sunrise and sunset hours, but I'm amazed that the conversion filter did such a good job. I've only used it a few times now and in almost all cases, it has surprised me.

Having been there a couple times now I have to say that I completely agree with you, I'm actually pretty impressed with the accuracy, though I also agree that sometimes accuracy isn't always everything. But really cool, thanks for sharing.

I haven't done a lot of LF landscape work, so last week when I set out to do some specifically, I managed this shot which was the best of the lot.

Cambo SCN, Caltar-S II 210mm f5.6 @f45, 1/2 second on Arista 100. The negative was really thin and I learned the hard way that my Ilfosol 3 had lost potency. I'm not displeased by the result, though.

I like the bucolic feel of this image. The lens flare and what looks like possible bellows light leak at the top are a little distracting. But nice image.

An image to be emulated. Very nice.

I assume this is the sought after 300w nikkor used here?

Thank you. I'm hoping to go back in a month or so after there's been some rain and the air is clearer.

The light leak is a digitization issue and appeared on all of my negative scans. The negative, however, don't show any light leaks.

    Thank you very much.

I'm assuming I have the sought after 300 W 5.6. To be honest, my 8x10 glass came from one person: Ben Horne. I used to be the type who would spend 75 on a crap lens, then sell it and buy a 200 dollar lens, then sell that and but a 500 dollar lens. Rather than doing that I asked him what glass he had, he told me and then I went off and searched and waited for a great deal. I picked mine up from BH and it's mint, looks like it was never touched. I don't have much experience with other brands to compare, but I like the lens so far.

Good choice. I like my 300w quite a bit but it has shutter issues at the slower end which needs attention.

dodphotography - Is Ben Horne a member on these forums? I follow a lot of his work via his website/blog and youtube channel but I'd love to be able to have a conversation with the guy.. (being on the other side of the planet doesn't help I guess) but he's quite an inspiration to me....

I just emailed him... Not sure if he's a member here.
