    You're welcome.

    To expand a bit...

You have a really wide subject brightness range (SBR) in that scene.
I would probably put the little island under the tree at around Zone II to III, and see where the clouds fall.

I expect you would need to shorten your development time, even with a compensating developer like Rodinal.

One problem with stand development is that you can't adjust development time in any meaningful way.

If you believe you can, or you believe you can't... you're right.

There are some details missing. First, what aperture was used? If it was f16 or f22 the exposure is about right with a red filter, give or take, with 100 speed film. With 400 speed film there's less chance of underexposure.

The biggest missing detail, is this a scan of a print or a negative scan? If it's a negative scan it's quite possible the scanner software, especially on automatic mode, is at fault for severely underexposing the shadows. The bright highlight clouds can fool a light meter, which the scanner also happens to function as. Check your negative and look for shadow detail. If it's easily apparent on the negative, it should be on a scan or a darkroom print if done the correct way.

Let us know what your negative looks like. Or rescan the negative and try making exposure adjustments. Be sure the histogram has no tone clipping on either the left or right side. I would bet there is detail that can be rescued in those shadows.

Leigh / David: I do remember, walking a step or two behind me to get a meter reading to see how much light was hitting those trees because I was in the shade. I wish I had taken a note or two of my readings. I "think" it might have been around f16sh or so, but that's merely a guess on my part now. I was able to bring in a wee bit of details via the scan, which btw was a negative scan, not a print.

It's all good. I was just out and about that day burning some film, but I do wish I could remember what my settings were though...
Next time, I will remember to meter for shadows, which I have done in the past, but had a senior moment that day I guess... because I did meter for the highlights instead.
