I've got my own server box colocated at work. I use centos+virtualmin for the hypervisor, with a mikrotik firewall as a virtual machine facing the network and for VPN access to my virtual machines, and virtual machines for the webhost and experimental use. centos and wordpress is a pretty good combination, but wordpress requires regular updates and extra security features. every CMS is needlessly complex and requires updates. I have it set to backup over the network to my house.
If your needs aren't complicated get a free or hosted wordpress blog that someone else maintains and point a domain at it.
If you want something cheap and full featured like a cpanel system, I have no idea who is reasonable; more often than not, it's a race to zero businesswise.
I've been a customer of Pair Networks for over a decade now. They aren't the cheapest out there but they're rock solid reliable and great customer service. They are unix-based with all the usual stuff you need. On my one hosting acocunt I run a handful of wordpress sites as well as some other ones.
I used to use Apple's Mobileme for my web needs. i wish i could find a web provider that was completely compatible with iweb web software. I was so busy taking pictures i did not keep up on the latest software and tools to make a website. Iweb just did it for me... basically what i saw is what i got .... so if there is a provider that is compatible with iweb please share this information.
Namecheap has very good customer service and is, as the name implies, cheap.
Domains cost about $12/yr.
I build my websites on Weebly, which is easy for a computer-idiot like myself; I got some outside help with a few HTML things to better customize the look of the site.
Weebly ...? i am to lazy to look it up .....mac?
Inmotionhosting. Very reliable, very affordable and great service.
I use this: http://www.bluehost.com/
Mac, PC, whatever.
