I know there are some that say firing the shutter a couple of times before making exposure improves the accuracy. I also know there are some that disagree. I'm not looking to open up that debate.

I believe I also read somewhere that shutters should be used periodically. If not the lubrication will dry out and they will cease. As I find myself getting out to shoot less and less often, I've begun to worry about this. What are people's thoughts? If you use your gear rarely should you bring it out and fire the shutters from time to time? If so how often? At which speeds?
