I highly recommend the Nikon Macro-Nikkor Multiphot 12cm f/6.3 lens which was made for use on the Nikon Multiphot. Back in the 1980s and 1990s it was my go to lens for shooting 4x5 Chromes.
Once had the same thing happen to me. Shutter sounded like it had fired, but later discovered that it never opened up.
Burke & James Commercial view... very solid, all movements, and can be really easily refinished if one chooses to do so. Used one for 10 years and it never let me down.

Over the years I have rewired many enlarger heads. As you stated "one wire at a time". Also I checked each the connections for conductivity as I replaced each wire and connectors. Rewired my present...
S K Grimes makes custom caps. Not cheap but well worth it considering how much one pays for the lens...
Agree 100%, based on a little bit of experience years ago. I use a diluted Plexiglass cleaner and final rinse with distilled (probably an overkill) water.
300mm f/4.5 Wollensak Velostigmat Series II in a Betax No. 5. With or without diffusion settings of the front element... personally never liked this optic's diffusion settings. Some people swear by...
Definitely a following on this end. Over the years have used probably no less than five different 135mm enlarging lenses - Schneider, Rodenstock, etc. For me my choice is an older El-Nikkor heavy all...
It's really not all that complicated... Once reset aperture blades in a shutter similar to yours. At the time instructions were impossible to find. First evening was tired so had a cup of coffee -...
for a morning or afternoon shoot
4x5 - four
whole plate - three
8x10 - two or three
11x14 - two
If shooting with a pinhole camera, always take more than the above amounts.
Also use a 180mm single coated inside lettering FUJI W on my 8x10. I believe it to be one of the first versions of the optic. Never measured its coverage, but I will go out on a limb and say it...
Mirror - 5" x 6"
frame 5 1/2" x 6 1/8"
has a protective (dark) slide
mounts directly into a Norma auxiliary standard which easily mounts atop the front sliding bed of a Chamonix
FYI: Sinar also...
I highly recommend Sinar's Front-surface mirror in its protective holder. #538.11. The bad thing is that they rarely are put up for auction or found for sale. The good thing is that they usually sell...
Same thing happened to me with one of my Copal shutters. The shutter has been doing just that for going on 20 years now. I just learned to live with it.
The Ce1000 is what I consider to be the best 4x5 enlarger out there, and I've used several different brands over the years. OEM glassless negative carriers I found very prone for negatives to "pop"...
Evidently their price has gone up quite a bit in the past few years. Still consider the unit a bargain. They do come up on eBay, all be it but rarely... After I bought mine new, one was put up on...
Never owned a Schneider Super Symmar 110 XL. Had owned a 115mm Rodenstock Grandagon at one time in the past. Sold it and a few years later acquired a 120mm Nikon SW for my 8x10 so never was able to...
I had done this for many years with my 90mm SA XL without any problems. I have read that the fine threads on the rear cell were not designed to be unthreaded and threaded on a frequent basis like...
8x10 wooden Burke & James (B & J) backs are very solidly built and usually go for little money.
Once bought a 3D printed Sinar board off eBay. Before cutting a hole in it, I went to test its strength by bending it with two fingers on each side. Easily broke in half. Last 3D printed board I ever...
Many years ago I adapted two hard cases to fit my 8x10 outfit and ride on the back of my bike. Both cases were very well padded inside. I do not advise anyone else to do this. Even though my...
Did the same a few years ago and soon realized that wiping the negatives with an orange Ilford ANTISTATICUM cloth before shooting them removed a whole lot of dust and dirt.
I have and use the 12cm Macro Nikkor that was developed for the Multiphot. This lens was optimized for flat field photography and magnifications from 1.2x - 4x. It is my understanding that the 120mm...
Definitely a Tiltall Camera Tripod would do. I believe that the ones offered new now are not as well made as the Tiltall Model 4602 Pro Tripod by E.Leitz, but that's a personal opinion.
People...
I am not loyal to any one manufacturer. I've used both Leitz and a Voigtlander optics that were dogs. My 508mm Caltar on 11x14 on the other hand has never disappointed me once after all these years....
Looks to be the same model lens with just different engravings on the barrel.
thanks for the info,
Greg
Nothing is automatic
No batteries needed
tray processing and by inspection if lucky enough to know how to
Sheer pleasure of hanging up an 11x14 negative to dry
Stop and park on the side of the...
I had a friend that picked up an 8x10 Kodak Master View in very worn condition. Took him probably two more years to find and acquire replacement parts, but in the end for under probably $200.00 had a...
Picked up this lens quite a while back but just never had the time to test it out:
Brass GUNDLACH - MANHATTAN OPTICAL CO. ROCHESTER N.Y. WIDE ANGLE 11x14 with rotating stops.
Focal length looks...
Back in the 1970s I was a student at The Rochester Institute of Technology. First using Minor White's testing , but then pursued the ZONE System under Nile Root and either T.L. Bollman or G.E....
Tried for the same effect years ago to try to match Bromoil prints.
Notes tell me that I used the following papers:
Kodak Special PX-2836 paper
HALOID 812KF paper
and MMP Projection Paper

Measured the camera and focal length is more like 100mm. My notes list the starting pinhole size of being 0.0138 inches. I know that I had replaced the original pinhole at least once to...
Taken with 8x10 pinhole camera. Focal Length around 90mm.
Years ago I used to make 30x40 inch Ektacolor and FB B&W prints. I was actually able to use a vertical enlarger for floor projection. It gets expensive very quickly. Made lots of 8x10 or smaller test...
OP of the above post: The penetrating oil wasn't WD40. I was given it by an automobile restorer. He called it "Panther Piss"... I'm sure that was a slang name for it. He closed shop many years ago so...
Definitely works. I've done this successfully on two lenses. I used three screw clamps side by side and a bar of metal that spanned across the three tightening "screws". Preferred to use a medium...
Agree 100%. I swear that I can set up my 4x5 Norma faster than my 4x5 X in the field. Though for shooting 8x10, I actually do prefer the P. I one time had a chance to shoot with a P that was modified...
Adding shims when screwing the barrel lens elements into the shutter to optimize the sharpness of the lens is something to consider. May or not matter all that much.
