Dan,
You're right of course, I didn't read carefully.

Horseman backs are scarce in the US as well...but well worth the effort if you can find one. There was also a Calumet/Cambo 6x12cm back, although the 6x7 and 6x9 format is much more common.
...
Wow! An 8x10 Sinar and access to Lobster Rolls...what could be better?
Get you to Acadia, immediately!
JD
Sevo...you made the right assumption, I didn't! Sure hope he sorts it out, a lot of us will be losing sleep over this one.
"Curiouser and curiouser"!
JD
Actually a Sinar user (F1) for twenty years. The OP mentioned sample images from Horseman and Dayi roll film backs, and multiple lenses. Ergo my suggestion that multiple backs and lenses indicated...
Brian,
Nicely put...I wasn't gonna to say anything but really! It ain't that hard. :p

Mamiya America has a student/faculty purchase plan (Mac-On-Campus) that is free to registered students of accredited schools. They heavily discount Induro tripods. Also, Mamiya, Toyo, Pro Foto, and...
On the contrary, I'd think that all those backs and all those lenses exhibiting the same problem would indicate that it has to be the camera.
I once had a 67mm polarizer that caused a focus shift...
You can get more rise on a Toyo field camera (45A/AX?) by using indirect rise. Tilt the camera up, adjust front and back to vertical, and you've increased the effective rise by a lot. Only...
One consideration is that the cable release socket on the Mamiya TLRs is on the body, not the shutter.
Might matter, might not.

Jim...thanks for the suggestion. Sounds like an excellent alternative.
Gem, I figured they were still around as everyone seems to have the tanks available new. I'd love to find the "real deal",...
Hi All,
I'm trying to find some lids (floating and snap on) for my Yankee UF45 tanks. These are the ones that require film hangers not the "daylight" piece of crap that we all have owned and...
Just one photographer's thoughts...I owned, for a short time, a Horseman VHR and found the knobs to be very small and twiddly. I do have fairly large hands so it could just be me. The small gg was...
In addition to what Dan has said about the L-778, it was discontinued some time ago, it reads ambient and flash, and can be "set up" to make the zone system super simple. It doesn't do incident...
Same unit I use in the field except mine fits a Cokin P filter holder, although in the studio I use a Sinar bellows and rod set up. However, if the light is really changing rapidly I revert to using...
Brian, you're right, the Calumet/Cambo RFH works fine and Wista makes (or made, maybe Bob S. can comment, Bob?) one that has a "guard" to protect the gg from scratches.
If I remember correctly the...
Like Brian says, really good camera, pretty good price. But...no Graflok back...if you need one.

With more time to think on it, I'm pretty sure I remember the name Braun was stamped on the power supply.
These were old units when I used them in the mid-70's and weren't all that powerful even...
John,
Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 works with Lightroom and Photoshop (as a plug in) and beats the channel mixer approach by a lot, at least for me.
You can download a trial version, the whole Nik...
Polyglot,
Thanks for the info. I realize that I can't install a SCSI card in a lap top, or a Mac Mini for that matter. Maybe I need a tower instead, the SCSI to Firewire thing doesn't sound...
They are Ultra Blitz, at least I'm pretty sure they are. I used the same units for wedding work about a hundred years ago.
They attached to a rechargeable power supply, not a 300v battery as...
I think that Tony Hillerman once buried a body up there...but Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee solved that one. :p
Seriously, your shoot sounds great, just don't buy the potato salad at the Safeway in...
I have a similar issue, I'm getting a used Mac Mini or MacPro (prefer Mini) and would like to use a Polaroid 4000 scanner, I use Silver Fast, OS will be 10.6 or so.
I have seen SCSI to Firewire...
I guess it's an optical thing...obviously the filter doesn't physically move, but the transition will appear lower in the image.
You can see it happen as you stop the lens down. I'm sure that...
Ed,
That's a good resource that I was unfamiliar with...thanks.
JD
You're most welcome...cool place we have here huh?
JD
Fredrick,
The Negative (the whole series for that matter) is probably the best resource for the zone system out there, and God knows there are plenty to choose from. But, you knew there would be...
To expand on Eric's contribution...as you stop a lens down the grad area will move (down) into the image area. This means that you have to place the grad with the lens at the shooting aperture. ...
For what's it's worth...just finished making a fresnel, actually cutting down a page magnifier I bought at office depot.
Tried several different methods of cutting the plastic, the only one that...
The Sinar F series (F/F1/F2) have two useful tools, the depth of field calculator, and the tilt/swing calculator, that make things easy, but are not intuitive in use.
Find the Sinar manual for the...
James,
The 6x17cm back I use is a Shen Hao which has it's own focussing panel and with the pinhole (f/330 as near as I can figure) is really dim. If I use my Sinar roll film holder it will do...
James,
Actually worked great...only issue is that the gg on the Shen Hao focusing panel could really use a fresne lens. It's really dim, fine with lenses but hard to see with the pinhole.
I...
Thanks for the info Jim...our photography department is having a retreat to shoot pinhole images, and eat pizza on Sunday. I'm hoping the Lenox Laser pinhole gets here by tomorrow. If not I've got...
Another vote for the Picker Book...no math involved. Fred distilled, some would say diluted, the zone system down to what you really need to know to make it work.
JD
Hi All,
I'm interested, no good reason...just am, in doing some pinhole photography with my Sinar. I'd like to find a book that covers the process from that perspective.
I'm not interested in...
Sounds like a nice find...but I doubt the red mark is for Infrared as we don't see IR.
I agree with Evan's assessment.

I have a Rodenstock Tele Rotelar (270mm) that works fine, it was originally mounted on an XL focusing mount. So the answer is probably yes, with the caveats as Dan noted.

I use a technique that I learned from a friend who is an entomologist. When he photographs insects he puts them in the freezer for a couple of minutes, slows them right down. Works great with kids...
I thought I saw a video with her using a Toyo metal field. Don't remember if it was a 4x5 or an 8x10.
