Doremus provides a through and complete reply, but if you decide to keep it simple by using a hardening fixer I've used the F-6 formula for years:
Water (at about 100F) 600ml
Sodium...
FWIW, a test negative developed this morning is drying and a quick glance, after pulling it from the washer, lead me to believe it's good. I'll have to print it to be sure. No idea what happened,...
Hi John,
Always nice to hear from you...
My "agitation scheme" is what I'd call "classic": raise tilt left, lower, raise tilt right, lower. At each tilt, I pause for about 2 seconds to let the...
Take a look at Luland on eBay. I think they’re handle is Luland66, but I don’t remember for sure.
Thank you both for the replies.
The issue I saw this morning definitely threw me for a bit of a loop because I've used these Kodak hangers for many years with several different development...
Perhaps a dumb question, but I had something odd happen this morning during development of a sheet of 8x10 Fomapan 100...
I've always oriented the emulsion side of the film toward the holes along...
Intrepid, if you're looking for something new.
Based on the weight of my 8x10 'Dorff, I can't even imagine how much that behemoth weighs! :)
I'm probably not the best one to help because I've used the same setup for 4x5 film for over 40 years; it's a plexiglass rack that sits on half-height dividers in my print washer. For 8x10 film, I...
Mark, I found in the printing of my neg that it was indeed quite under-developed. Honestly, I hate testing this kind of thing when I already have other developer formulas that I'm satisfied with. I...
What has always seemed odd to me with the Stearman tank is that some film/developer combos cause issues, while others don't. IMO, if you never had issues using DDX, then I'd use it; there's nothing...
Lens construction is generally about the number of elements, element pairs, and air spacing between them, and doesn't really define any particular focal length. I'm sure there are photographers who...
Yes, the second pic you posted is the correct loading of the film.
I've used a Tachihara 4x5 for over 40 years and it has been a great camera! I'm sure an 8x10 version would serve the purpose, but I'd be a bit concerned about how solid it would or not be under more...
I can't speak to 5x7" film because I don't shoot that format, but I have developed hundreds of sheets of 4x5" Fomapan 100 in a B&W King tank. Never had a single issue with a sheet dislodging from the...
Good point! I load my 4x5 holders with the holder placed vertically, but load my 8x10 holders horizontally like you.
I've never used Shanghai sheet film, but its packaging sounds like Foma films. Therefore, the film itself will be inside a black plastic bag which is folded over and inside the outer box. Being a bit...
I have several products made by Daniel and I can assure you that they're high quality products. If the cases you're considering for your lenses will work, I wouldn't hesitate based on quality....
Thought I'd pass on my findings...so far.
I developed an 8x10 sheet of Fomapan 100 this morning in a BTZS tube at 20C for 8 mins; 1+1+64 dilution. It's hanging to dry as I type this, but it...
After many years of using a few different pyro developers, I've caught the itch to try WD2H. I found an old LFPF thread where John posted the correct formula and showed that he used 25ml A + 25ml B +...
Not true. In fact, he sells a motor base for rotation style processing. I've never seen any sign of "hyper development" on either 4x5 or 8x10 with my Jobo Expert drums.
A B's reel may work: https://www.bounetphoto.com/bounet-shop/bs-4x5-developing-reel or you could look for a used 20th Century Camera reel.
I use the Luland adapter. The SK Grimes was simply outside my budget.
Doremus,
Your method of calculating bellows extension is exactly the way I've been doing it for years. But, thank you so much for posting this PDF as I've always been too lazy to create one for...
Actually, it's a LUT file they created based on the techniques outlined at easydigitalnegatives.com. You could certainly give it a try, but keep in mind that the LUT offered is based on their printer...
Bob is the expert here and I certainly agree with all his good points.
Your FO should be good; stored properly it will generally last about one year, but I mix it fresh from powder about every 6...
Sounds like you're on your way to a good working space. If you're really in Mesa, I'd love to hear your solution for keeping the darkroom cool during the summer months.
Wishing you good light for...
Lots of variables involved here, but I'll take a stab at it...
In general, the print looks under-exposed; I would expect the border area around the image to go black because it's probably clear...
I craft B&W digital negatives all the time for pt/pd printing so I see no reason why a color image couldn't be printed on Pictorico film. But, IMO that would be the extent of the exercise. That...
Great news indeed! Enjoy shooting those dry plates...it's a lot of fun!
Jason hasn't made any plates since mid-2022. A supply was available for a short while, but that dried up quickly. Seeing how we're now approaching two years sans J Lane plates I wouldn't be holding...
At the moment, Zebra Dry Plates are the only commercially available ones that I'm aware of.
In my experience with the SP-445, I found that too vigorous of agitation must have caused the film to move slightly in the holders which left dig marks in the emulsion from the small clips that hold...
I'm also in the "don't care for it much" camp with HP-5+. I really tried to like it many years ago, but I suppose after shooting Tri-X 320 for so many years the HP-5+ just didn't sing for me. YMMV,...
I do have separate sets of lenses for 4x5 and 8x10, but that's mainly because I started with the "smaller" format over 40 years ago, moved on to 8x10 some years later and didn't know about lenses...
If you review his technical tips page on his website, you'll find that 510-Pyro is the first developer listed; and, I believe, they're listed in order of preference. On your side of the pond, Zone...
If you're using Zebra Dry plates, I personally found HC-110 to be much too aggressive and my first plates were nearly black, too. I finally settled on Thornton's Two-Bath or 510-Pyro at 1:150. If...
Neither of my 8x10 backpacks have a place for a tripod. I just carry it in one hand or over my shoulder. Besides, with the size/weight of tripods generally used for this size camera I can't really...
In addition to what Paul said, I've found that different film stocks reveal different levels of stain. For example, Fomapan 100 reveals a fairly strong stain color (for me) whereas Tri-X is barely...
