What focus helical do you use?
And here i thought my Toyo ROBOS was big and heavy.
In my eyes, they are just as good. I always like the smoothness that the diffusion delivered, but once i got the condenser dialed in, they had the smoothness. Scratches and dust are more pronounced...
Have you considered the condenser head? I have been a die hard user of color heads because of the diffusion. But i just got a 45v-xl with the condenser head. Once I adjusted for the higher grade of...
What will you be using the lens for? Landscape, portraits, backpacking, tabletop?
I shot 3 exposures on 35mm ektachrome. Nikon f3 with a 300 2.8. They were essentially snapshots tho. I don't shoot night/star photos. The 3 exposures were F2.8 at 20, 30, 40 seconds. See how the...
Yea. No more issues when used under subdued light. Even after taping the pinholes of the logo, i tested it again under direct sun and it still fogged film, But used in the shade with the darkcloth...
same here, i kept the tent and got a half refund. Mine had light leaks in the same place you are talking, i taped the pinholes and cover the whole tent with my dark cloth.
I know you say you dont want to focus, but does your speed have a rangefinder? I dont see a reason not to use it. Ive been shooting a lot of handheld crown/speed shots and its a quick camera to use....
I keep the stock solution in brown glass bottles, Filled to the top, and keep out of light. It will last a long time. My last batch i mixed up lasted 6 years, with no ill side affects. But make sure...
I have never shot portra in 4x5 but I have shot a lot of it in medium format. Portra 400 can easily handle being shot at 160. Portra 400 is some amazing film.
It has not been brought up yet, but have a look at the busch pressman D, its bulletproof, will fold up with the lens attached. Which I think is a big deal for hiking with a 4x5. I would go down the...
Try just leaving 1/2 to 1/3 of the sprocket holes in on top and bottom of the frame. I would like to see how that would affect the overall feel.
I like the film border. Gives it a complete different feel.
You could go for a slightly smaller lighter tripod if you go headless. It will make everything more steady, and easer to carry.
Speed easels for me. They solve the curly paper problem for me.
I used the 410 for a while but ended up selling it and going headless. Just line the lens up with the front leg, it makes it very easy to adjust the up down tilt without tilting the camera side to...
Do you mean you like the newest generation or you just like toyo holders in general.
Is there any difference in between the new ones with blue lettering off to one side and the old ones with the lettering in the center? Is it just a cosmetic change. I'm looking to buy some and just...
Vaseline
Im in the process deciding between a chamonix 045n-2, arca swiss discovery, sinar norma. It's going to be a do everything 4x5, but mostly a backpack landscape camera, that will be making it up to...
I would say the best thing would to buy a monorail like a sinar f/f2. The f will save you a bit of money for the lens and everything else.
It's all a balance game between weight, speed and cost....
Fold it over and lick the edge, then put if over the edge of a table and pull down, it will cut it beautifully.
Just joking.
Thats actually what I do. I normally run 1L of developer in a 8x10 tray to develop a print. I do like to make sure the prints have enough water to play and dance in the water.
I pick the print up...
Do you get any uneven development in the rocking trays?
When I started in the darkroom, I used the rocking method to agitate my prints and had very uneven development. Very very bad skies and such.
I really like the Paterson's trays,

I just ordered more in 8x10 and also have 4...
Its also much easer if you have a tray with runs and valleys in it. Can't think of a better way to describe it now.
Even though I don't want to think it, I'm more about the image. I find the exploring to be one of the best parts of photography. Taking images for me is a way to break through my social barrier. It...
Wow thats really cool. It's crazy to see how far we have not come.
There is something very surreal about your images.
I've been getting my setup in some pretty weird positions. I dont use a head on my tripod and there has been a few times recently that I was shooting at about a 60 degree angle down. The tripod was...
I see where your coming from, I knew that it was possible but never thought of it. I also run headless on my tripod. Never got use to using a head.
Well if anybody is checking this, I have decided to get the darkroom back up and running which means the 4x5 that I sold, will be replaced. I hate scanning 4x5 but in the darkroom 4x5 is much easer...
I don't remember any of it as I was just born in 1990.
Is that the new f1?
Im now kinda looking over the chamonix 45n-2 and it seems like it will do most everything that I want it to, but I like to have rear rise, fall and shift to set composition.
I've looked into the flexbody but i don't have the extra money on top to get the body, The only want I woul be getting a 6x9/4x5 field kit is by sellin the hasselblad kit. Second I don't want to be...
Thats a bummer but thanks for filling me in on the camera , looks like i might pass on the Shen hao. It would be awesome to find somebody to want to trade a ebony 4x5 or 6x9 for my blad kit.
ARe you in the same boat as me. Love the movements but not the demands of 4x5 film (loading and unloading, developing, and cost)
After looking at the pictures close I see how the back can mount both ways.
I knew it would be a cold shoe but I did not know if everybody knew what a cold shoe was.
The standard back for it...
