what type of trees are those? With the DOF they look like a Taraxacum and as if the subject is miniaturized, I love how it plays in my mind.

I am not sure about the scanning part but the Impossible 8x10 should be able to give you a negative. See these videos:

Alan's method in the video is to apply the Fresnel to the inside of the holder (i.e. in front of the GG - Fresnel facing lens) it takes him a bit of dremel work to get the Intrepid to take it.

Yes that is correct "Technika 4x5 Boards". They also have stated to have their own boards available for sale in the next 2 weeks.
I second Roberts comment about taking a class at a local Community College. Since you know digital an Intro to Photography class (typical taught with film only) should be a breeze as you pass...
