The Pocket Spot guys are indeed a bit spotty on replying to emails, etc. They basically make the meters as a hobby. I was on their list for a long, long time, but I did eventually get my meter. ...
And for the record, I've never set a stone myself. But I've often appreciated them when "appropriate".
While there's certainly an element of truth to that, the same argument can be made for removing street signs. One who doesn't know what street he's on has no business being there. The street signs...
Tough to say. What appears to be an unnecessary cairn in the summer, can be very valuable in winter, especially on less traveled paths, after a snow storm. Many times I've been thankful for a...
It might help to know where you are located. Assuming you're in the U.S., I have a 5x7 camera and film holders I might be able to loan you.
It's called having more dollars than sense.
Putting a bigger engine in a Volkswagen doesn't make it a Porsche. It's a Polaroid 110 with a 4x5 back grafted on to it.
I've seen the Littman and...
I made the mistake of getting several boards from him in my first order. I would have been better off starting from scratch compared to how much time I spent re-working them. Though the transaction...
Just look on eBay for any lens labeled "mint" or that contains the description "I'm not a camera expert". They are sure to be garbage lenses that will certainly have just the right combination of...
Damn. Haven't looked for it in a while.
You can still find it on the Wayback Machine:

Construction quality for me. They're slightly heavier for a given application, but I've used mine to break handholds/footholds in ice, and I've dropped mine down countless rock slopes, all without...
Surefire. Everything else is second best.
Not LF, but . . .
On September 10th, 2001, I returned from a vacation in California for a friend's wedding. We got in late and I didn't unpack my cameras from the trip.
On September 11th, I...
I bought the same Ilfochrome. Beautiful. He didn't tell me where it was, but seeing it there made me realize it was in Utah, and a little internet research got me what I needed. The ranger's...
For False Kiva, ask at the ranger station. They won't tell you about it unless you ask (try to do it when others aren't standing around), to keep traffic to a minimum, but they have a book with...
I think it's time to move out of Chicago . . .
Kidding. Mostly.
I finally made it to Utah two years ago. By the end of the week, I'd already made a reservation at the lodge in Zion NP for the same time next year. And within 12 months of the first trip, I went...
As the background is far enough away to be out of focus, it makes sense to me that it would have the swirl back there as well. But maybe I'm not understanding all the optical issues of petzvals.
During my few years in upstate NY, I found that the famously grey weather around the Finger Lakes greatly helped my exposures inside covered bridges. Most have plenty of small openings, so strong...
Not directly photography related, but . . .
About 12 years ago, a friend and I were on our way to photograph the defunct steel mill in Bethlehem, PA. On the way, we stopped to photograph an old...
Looks beautiful. Any shots from the ground? That looks like one heck of a cliff on the left side of the image.
We're looking to back-country camp. I routinely hike in Colorado and Utah year-round and the folks I'm going with live in Colorado, so we're good with pretty much any weather contingency, training...
Not to thread-jack, but . . . what's the park (and Sequoia NP) like in October? I might be heading out there the week of Columbus Day.
Aside from the Golden Aspect Ratio part, that's the justification I used about my last girlfriend. So . . . you're going to have to try harder than that to convince me. :)

Most folks think that ALL LF cameras are arcane. 8x10 film is hardly something you pick up at your local camera store (unless you live here in NYC :) or somewhere equally blessed).
After looking...
Rain/thunderstorms predicted for the next 9 days here (NYC). At least it keeps things cool.
I like variety.

Which leg locks do you have. I had the lever-type ones, and didn't clean out the sand soon enough. The next time I went to use it, it acted like a wedge in the joint and cracked the whole lock.
6x17 and 6x12 are fairly common film-back sizes on view cameras. So while the film size might not be considered LF (or borderline), the camera probably is.
As others have said, the 5x7 and a TLR would be my choice. But since you already have the RB, I'd take it.
For windy/rainy days, it's always nice to have the more rigid option of the MF.
And...
Guns are a different matter all together. Alas, my taste in guns is more expensive than in cameras . . .
I stopped counting at 85 cameras, so you have a ways to go before you hit "enough".
Smithsonian Air & Space Museum used to have a similar one on display along with 2 of the WW II aerial cameras. I always wanted one. But I can honestly say I have too many cameras as it is.
Your fellow engineers feel your pain . . .
Same here. Two lenses with it (G Clarons) and they are my sharpest and contrastiest (if that's a word) lenses.
I have the Feisol 3442. Compared to my non-carbon 14XX series Gitzo, it's not nearly as finely crafted. But I don't think it needs to be. And I'm an engineer who loves precision as much as the...
Photo-flo is a wetting agent.
I'd kill the perma wash. Make the stop bath 60 seconds. And cut the fix by at least 1/2, if not by 10 minutes.
Amazing to see what post-apocolpyse looks like in real-time. It'll be interesting to see if it all just reverts back to prairie or farm land.
He has cajones the size of church bells to wander...
I have an unused package of five 4x5 Mido holders I'd be willing to sell. I believe they're Type I, but I'll check.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if I remember correctly the Type I just...
