Initially quite intriguing/tempting and a bit brain-bending...the idea of pre exposing film to specific spectra - but thinking through this it makes no sense as this only adds density because there...
But of course you must know that slitting a stack of pancakes (agree on the 60mm slit width) right down the middle of the stack, then pouring your syrup (preferably warmed Vermont maple!) into this...
We are so very lucky for our 25 acres of mostly mixed hardwood and hemlock forest with a couple of smaller open fields, surrounded by other properties much larger than ours, also of mixed forests...
When describing the correct orientation of the notch (to ensure the emulsion is correctly oriented), it is imperative to also describe the orientation of your film holder while loading. For example,...
Was thinking that OP had issues/questions regarding terminology - and was ready to suggest that we dispense with the term "Black and White Photography" and replace this with "Grayscale Photography." ...
For larger than 1:1 on 4x5, a reversed 55mm f/3.5 Micro-Nikkor P (old version) works great...as I used for this photo I made years and years ago before the last ice age...watch movement floating by...
Simon that is a very complex image and yet it works wonderfully...the layering of light and shadow, the lighter and slightly unfocussed (non distracting but with a complimentary presence) background...
...but did Kodak have an established policy that such retouching would be performed? If not, I'd have sued!
...anyone tried this as a dip and dunk?
...and make sure that the contact surface(s) between the bottom of the baseboard and top of the workbench does not allow for any "rocking and rolling." In other words...the heaviest, thickest,...
You could trim six inches from the 14x17, and end up with an 11x14 (to fit your holders) and a 6x14 (for pano and/or testing).
...and I'm also very curious about results from this film!
(and...
Tuco, I'm headed out your way (sw Washington state) in late May. Anyplace/galleries remotely near there that I could see your work?
Home Depot usually carries Melamine panels in different sizes...plus you can cut them down and use the "iron-on" Melamine edge banding kit for a neat look.
Plywood is great - but IMHO only if...
Had the green (monster) version ages ago...used it almost exclusively with a 210 f/9 Computar. Acquisition was inspired by Cole Weston...who'd walked me around his, and related how - whenever he and...
Ha! Caught it! But is it THE mouse
...couldn't quite bring myself to photograph it (and Jim, what a creative use of a mouse trap as flash trigger!).
John, thanks for the tip about...
hey...this is a photo thread! Anybody have any cicada pix? Or maybe pix of their cast-off exoskeletons? Or perhaps, following MR. Can's post above...a nice pic of some crispy, tasty cicada-snax? ...
John I envy your study of insects...which I think are truly fascinating! (possibly excepting for ticks, which are making our yards and fields here in Vermont quite toxic - but then again, this is...
Traps have been in place for two nights...but no mouse!
Thing is...I'd been away from my darkroom for over a week - and it was during this time that the mouse came along and wreaked havoc with...
Eating crow and drinking pyro here...feeling very badly about my comments above - with my sincere apologies!
(although I must say...that I do find that marinating the crow in pyro overnight in...
Well that's interesting...because it just so happens that another thread title of mine: "Engine Out Equals Floppy Tranny?" got a huge amount of likes as "the best thread title ever!" on the Pelican...
yes...a perfect setup for both a fisheye lens and a square format! Nice!
Daniel I wonder if that peacock is a descendent of those at Kingwood I'd seen during my visits there with my grandparents back in the late 1950's/early 1960's? On my last visit there...1969 I think...
As for mouse pee being acidic...according to my online sources it is certainly very acidic. But then again...these are online sources - and we know how that can go!
Very interesting point about...
The question might be more one of intention...or lack thereof due to lack of knowledge through practice.
Mind fart about TF-5...as I'd switched over from the (slightly alkaline) TF-4 last year.
Nightmare scenario here...with a number of 5x7 negative sleeves having been evidently peed on by a mouse, with the sleeves then having wicked some of this pee in to "infect" about a dozen or so...
I actually prefer glass...but only if a matted, mounted, glazed, and framed print is to be moved just once - directly from my worktable onto a wall. Prints that more typically get moved around more...
very nice image...would be interesting to have a crop just up to the lower leaves, and down to about the bottom of the image, and just to the left and right of the large rock.
as for the two...
hmmm...you could cut and dry-mount each image separately onto two-ply archival board, and trim matted prints to the image edges, then affix these with ATG (the "permanent" kind which won't shift) to...
Jeesh I've got family coming up from NYC (Hastings), Providence, and Boston, and need to feed them all (don't get me wrong will be fun!), and some are heading up to Burlington where it will be an...
Very interesting point about symmetrical vs asymmetrical optics.
Have not read thru entire thread so maybe this has been answered...but if I were to want my 110XL tested for alignment - to whom...
Would be interesting if someone threw some of Moersch's developers into their testing routines. For me, I've had great luck with different combos of Ilford's (WT/CT/Classic) papers and Moersch...
...but a bulb (legit question)...like something to replace the PH-202 in an Omega D2-V. Anybody?
Jim, I've never photographed an eclipse in the manner that you have above, but am thinking I'd like to try this. So...I have two questions, first one being: what film, filter, aperture/exposure...
Neil that Linhof TK "variant" looks great! (I'd owned the "standard" version for awhile a few years back).
...but the rear centerline (visible in final photo) I'm finding a bit confusing. Looks...
Tim - by all means, switch to HP5…so that you don’t risk the photographic results from your upcoming Africa trip by courting (known or possible) inconsistencies in film stock!
Major PTSD taking hold here - fears about that dream coming back...the one where I show up for my organic chem final having done absolutely nothing to prepare - and I'm really late so that everyone...
About five years ago...I was gifted an unopened box of 4x5 TMX - dated June 2015 - and two years ago finally got around to giving it a go, and its basically fine. Never cold-stored but always around...
I only use Cooltone FB rarely...but for certain subjects I find it very effective:
