I had some issues with my 4500 a while ago and cured the problems by removing all the boards and using Deoxit D5 on all connections. I also placed the machine on a "cleaner" power supply (by running...
If you think Jobo gear is dear, don't develop a Leica habit...
atlex.com and Amazon are usual suspects...
Fine - use a film profile and no sharpening - call it whatever you like - and you'll have a better result for a given optical resolution IF you have the aperture set appropriately AND your scanner is...
By RAW, I simply meant unsharpened, unmanipulated scan (make the scan with a film profile - and no sharpening).
If that's the case, it's due to the Howtek operator setting the aperture inappropriately for the film which is resulting in extensive grain aliasing coupled with the fact that the Epson's lack of...
The Schneider 110XL covers at f27... You get a tiny bit of wiggle room if you stop down more. The Nikkor 120SW also covers with a little more coverage.
Microcontrast of a drum scan will reveal all the nuances contained in the original - a consumer flatbed will lose some... It's not all just about resolution.
Unless you want to spend a bunch of time learning about sharpening, I'd recommend scanning everything with sharpening turned off and use a utility like NIK sharpener, which has nice starting points...
I can't say that any better so +1...

I believe it's a great lens; and the reason I qualified the my generalisation with "most"...

It's not really that much of an issue:
1. you're typically dealing with lenses of much shorter focal lengh where the apparent depth of field is greater.
2. Almost all newer DSLR bodies...
I'd be in for 5 - perhaps 10 boxes - cutting down 8x10 is very do-able but not exactly a fun way to spend time...
At f26, the 110XL covers perfectly at infinity - if it doesn't, you're not zeroed somewhere...
FWIW, I'd suggest getting a matching target (same film) if you primarily shoot one particular film. I have an Astia and a Velvia profile created from the correct respective targets and they give...
The lamps actually get dimmer over the life - pop in a new lamp (or switch the lamps - it's likely that the reflective lamp has almost no use on it)... If that doesn't work, lamp alignment is the...
Buy an IT 8.7 target and create a custom profile for your scanner - it's really very simple and will streamline your workflow. I use some I bought from Wolf Faust a while ago - there may be a lot of...
That's great advice Lenny.
For two years, I lugged a Deardorff 8x10 around with meter, a Nikkor 450 M and 3 old holders (which I still own) - sometimes I even remembered a cable release. I made...
Have to agree! Not often the LF brethren bring humour to the party (unless pyro/drum/flatbeds/Steve whatsit count), but when they do....
I would guess that your data should give very good results with a hand rolled drum (of course, use fresh Xtol because you just never know when that stuff has decided to quit...).
What is the "tonal range" you're referring to here? Are you talking about the straight line part of the film curve in a particular developer?
Print them Ken - and have a careful look at tonal gradations - the stepping effects which cause posterisation are very difficult to discern on a screen, but are usually very clear on prints...
You've done prints? Because I have and I can tell straight up, that there are all sorts of issues which I cannot discern on my very nice and accurately calibrated monitors which do reveal themselves...
Here's a tip (and you may find it crucial to your testing) - make the prints... then compare.
Clearly Bob has done it, I know I have, and I'll bet Sandy has. Why go to all this trouble is you're...
It will fit into a Suburban easily - I moved mine in a GMC Jimmy a couple of years ago - didn't have to even break the column into two halves to do it.... The base is surprizingly compact on these...
The 6-D cell is even better. In Detroit, they still them a "Malice Green", not a maglite...
fantastic flashlight - usually cheapest at Botach - http://www.botachtactical.com/stscfl.html You can usually pick up the CR123s for about $1 each.
Absolute yes - see what the best alt process printers are doing and take a look at their results....
Yes - if you intend manipulating anything before you print it, 16 bits will help a great deal in avoiding all sorts of problems. Muck around gently with an 8bit greyscale file and you will see the...
Do let us all know when you actually win that fabulous gift card If you're that marketing fixated that a gift card lottery decides your spend, do what you wish. Personally, I find it refreshing to to...
Fantastic!

Is Portra NC the only option? I'd really like to get hold of 160VC in 5x7 and currently cut it from 8x10. Anyone else here have some thoughts on VC as opposed to NC?
You can't get condensation in between the elements of a Boss screen - they have a sheet of wax between two sheets of glass - there' no "space" in between the elements of the screen - if the screen is...
Have a look around for Sinar filters - they used to make a 25, 58 and 47 in 100mm square resin filters which conveniently fit Lee holders. I bought a set on Ebay a while back which were unused.
Check this guy's tricolor work out... http://www.loc.gov/exhibits/empire/
TMY is very fast which is a great help when shooting LF portraiture. It's also very fine grained... I shoot 35mm portraiture with it all the time.

I'm not "angry"! My opinion was just a visual assessment which was so dramatically different to yours, I added it... I haven't waved a measuring tool near it; my observations were simply...
My impression is that the Harman Gloss FB Al is still slightly warm tone and in no way "cool" or "blue"... A while back, I did a set of wet prints on Ilford fiber MG glossy (little selenium toning to...
I use a Jobo Mistral dryer with the sheet film cabinet - dead easy. I used to use a coat hanger with a bunch of plastic clothes pegs - run the shower hot for a minute or two - cleans the air and...
