Stone, reciprocity, your favorite topic, is the reason. Personally I like tungsten white balance with stars. Wish I'd have had film on my trip to AZ.
I have a question regarding reciprocity, not sure how it works in case of star trails.
    1. Star (projection) is moving across the film and each second (or a bit more) it is exposing new part of film, which wasnt exposed before (dark sky was in this area). So as I understand that tiny part of film has only +/-1 sec of exposure and reciprocity failure of most films will not affect anything?
    2. However if we have foreground lit by by some light, film with "worst" reciprocity failure can give us longer exposure and longer star trails (in case 1st point is true)?
Not sure if it is correct.

Also I heard that Provia has less color shift in case of long exposure. Not sure how true it is, and how important it is in case of star trails.

Not speaking from experience but I believe you're correct on all three points. Some actually prefer Velvia for star trails both for the sometimes interesting color shifts and because RF reduces the effective exposure of foreground elements.

I think that the worse the reciprocity, the more faint stars will start to "disappear" because they move before exposing the film enough. I usually try to shoot stopped down no more than f/8, f/5.6 preferred. There's a startrail thread somewhere here I started some time ago.

This was taken before they cleaned it up and made a monument out of it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Kerouac_Alley

And here is a bit more of the skyline from the same position. This is the whole negative, from the Travelwide 90mm. With a different camera I would have used a longer lens, but this crops up nice.

Fantastic shot - I was also wondering about the airport security and taking photos.
