Travelwide is a great name IMO.

Rick, you're right on the money as usual. The 65 body is designed to nail infinity focus, because a) some landscape photographers will want infinity to be in absolutely peak focus, and b) you can always shim forward, but if you want to go back, you need sandpaper.

In all honesty, "hyperfocal" is a myth—in reality it's a compromise. Different people will have different standards for what is "in focus" enough, and how far forward or back they feel comfortable cheating it. The type of user who will be using the 65 will probably want to decide that for themselves.

So more likely than not, we'll ship the 65 with some custom shims, instructions, and let the user make that call. But to our standards, we've been able to find a sweet spot where ~8m is pretty darn sharp, and infinity is nearly perfect—all at ƒ/8. Once you stop down, you'll get some more flexibility.

Thinking "out loud," I think we would probably do a new body that we could use to make both a 47 and 58 version, similar to how we've done with the 90 / 65 body. But we'd certainly need this one to be successful before we could consider that.
Well I will look too because I have no idea what it is! But a recessed lensboard sounds like a plan, or, if you do a split 47/58 model I would certainly purchase that instead!! I am beyond excited to be in on this already, especially at the spectacular $49 price-point! Well done guys!! Okay I will stop using exclamation points...

Beautifully done - kudos to you and Justin for getting this off the ground!

I wonder whether you'd sell a few more if you make it clear that the camera can be used with other 90's too. Or do you think the necessary caveats would cause too much confusion?

Sounds great, but am I correct in assuming that I can have a cable release or a strap, but not both? I would want both. Sorry if that is asking for too much at this point. ;-)

According to Schneider's data, the 65mm f/8 SA has a FFD of 70.5mm, while the 58mm XL has a FFD of 70mm, so it should work essentially the same??

Oh, cool! I'd have to look at our CAD drawings, but the 58 may work out of the box then. I guess worst case, you'd need to sand down the front by 0.5mm. Honestly, if it seems like it needs to be moved back by just 0.5, we might be able to design a feature in the mold so that we can produce a separate 65 and 58 plate. I wonder how many people have that 58.

The spring back is strong enough that you can hang the camera vertically from one borehole, and thread the cable release through the other one! Or you can possibly stuff both through one borehole—if you have a narrow strap and cable release, it's a real possibility.

That would be awesome. I don't know if more people have the 58mm than 65mm, but it might be good to point out!

I guess I can't order both separately as some folks above mentioned, regarding ordering two, but I'll definitely be getting a super-wide model if it pans out (or I might make another KS account to get the other so I can help out more).

Anyway, congratulations guys! When you figure it out, let me know how I may further support the project by putting more money in for a second camera...
