Back in the mid-70's, I purchased a Saunders 20x24 easel adjustable easel. It is the kind with the adjusting knobs on the side and bottom. It was Air Force surplus, but was in the original box and never used. I wasn't set up for 20x24 at the time so I never opened it. As I unpack my darkroom things now that have been in moving boxes for the past 20 years, I discovered the Saunders easel has a black vinyl surface laminated over the usual Saunders yellow metal base. Only the paper insertion slots are the usual yellow.
I am assuming one puts a dead piece of paper in to compose and focus on. I wonder if the black background was to keep light from going through the paper and reflecting back through, or something like that. I wonder if the Air Force used some sort of special thin paper maybe.
Anyone know why this was or what I have? It still has never been used, but sure looks nice. I wish I were setting up a darkroom instead of getting ready to get rid of everything.
