Show off your Large Format camera!

Hi to all,

Just wanted to share with you a few pictures of my new baby.

I basically wanted a compact 8x10, and easy to put in action (nothing to fold, turn around etc.)

As I do not need, or want back movements, and do mainly landscape and architectural photography (210mm Sinaron WS and 240mm Apo Sironar), I decided to cannibalize, and started with a 8x10 Cambo Portrait camera back, converted a 5x7 back standard to front standard, and added a Cambo 5x7 – 8x10 bellows with a detachable rail.

If I need more extension, which I generally don’t need, I just switch rails with a regular Cambo SC rail.

Thickness of the whole stuff including the huge 240mm Sironar S, 7,5 inches.

Thierry, I really like your 8x10, it looks like a great setup. What's the weight?

I made a modification to my 8x10 Grover. It cut the weight down to ~8lbs and I can use lenses from ~120mm-325mm. One day I'll make a bag bellows for this so the movements for shorter focal length lenses aren't limited by the current bellows.
BTW I didn't level and straighten anything out for the pics, that's why it looks so uneven.

Brian,

The weight of the camera excluding the lens is 6,4 kilos. This includes the Manfrotto mounting plate, which is mounted permanently. The idea was to take the camera and just plug it onto the tripod.

A leather strap in normally attached to the two screws on the vertical mount, making the whole camera easily portable.

I didn’t want to take any compromise on stability, the reason why I didn’t want to make a light version, and drilling holes all over the camera.

I could have used a 4x5 front standard instead, but preferred to use a 5x7 standard for stability reason, as it is less affected by the weight of the lenses.

My main issue was to have a less bulky, more compact outfit.

Anyway, with the two lenses mentioned before, and occasionnally a 355mm G-Claron, weight is, and will remain an issue.

Not to forget I am not "light" either. (no comments, please )
