Chrism: OK, after all of the praise from various posters (who may or may not have experience taking pictures of their wives!), how did the only critic who counts (your wife) like it? (I ask with a certain amount of self-interest, since my wife usually tells me that any portraits I make of someone else are very nice, but my pictures of her? ... not so much.)

Funny, my wife tells me the exact opposite; grass is always greener, I suppose.

I'm currently banned from using her as a subject. Does that answer your question?

Using fill-light might be better answer than just using SF lens, btw. Just an observation.

That's a good suggestion. Then the lighting will be lighting shape more than detail.

Thanks for the thought. Sooner or later I'm going to have to address lighting, rather than looking for a sunny window and hoping....

Its same deal as with lighting orange. Dips and wrinkles are accentuated if you do not fill shadows. First rule of thumb when shooting for texture - use side lighting, and then if you want to destroy texture - front lighting. All goes from there Generally speaking - females never look to have their skin texture to be accentuated
