And it looks like it was quite difficult to meter! If you remember, how did you determine exposure for the Ilford Delta film? I suspect you favored capturing details in the high-value snow, at the expense of the low-value evergreens. I have a few shots like this awaiting development (FP4+), and I think I’ll be trying a dilute mixture of HC-110 w/ longer development times for the compensating effects…

I did aim for preserving detail in the snow, and letting the trees fade into dark. I spot metered several spots, including snow both up close and on the mountainside, the basalt cliff face, and areas of trees. Since there wasn't much color in the scene to begin with, I figured black and white would be a better choice than color slide film.

The exposure range was a bit broad, so I was pretty sure I'd lose one end of the tone scale, but only by a stop or so. There weren't any clouds to lose, so I didn't need to worry about preserving detail in the sky. I do think that the image lost quite a bit in scanning, since I'm not that good with the scanner yet, plus my scanner's just an Epson V750.

I will one of these days set myself up with some film processing equipment and start doing my own film processing. For now I've been going to Panda Labs; they do my black and whites, and color up to medium format, and send out the color sheets to R&R Custom Color in Spokane. I used R&R quite a bit, so I figure this way the guys at Panda take care of getting it there safely, so I don't need to worry about it, and I have a one stop shop for film development.

A recent, rare foray into the weird world of color... Fulton Dam from Lock 3 on the Oswego Canal, Fulton, NY.

I really just needed a photo of the dam....the water came along as a free extra.
