    240mm F9 G-Claron coverage on 8x10

I have seen a lot of discussion in the archives here on the 210 and 305 G-Claron's coverage on 8x10. I have a 305 on its way here from California and am comfortable it will do the job for me on 8x10.

The lens coverage chart in this site indicates the 240mm G-Claron coverage at 298mm at F22. Is this right? MidwestPhoto and KEH both call it an 8x10 lens.

Also, I am considering the 240 G-Claron against a 240 Nikon W 5.6. I am a bit worried that my old eyes will appreciate the extra brightness on the groundglass as I am shooting my indoor "candids". (With the assistance of #22 flashbulbs).

Any experience with these two 240mm lenses would be appreciated.

    thanks,

    steve

    240mm F9 G-Claron coverage on 8x10

    Hi Steve.

I use a 210 G Claron on my 8x10 so I am certain that a 240 will cover with no problem. The G's are single coated but the biggest difference is between the uncoated and coated in my opinion. I have old eyes myself but I find it not too much of a challenge to use the f:9 lens.

see ya on the zoner list!

    240mm F9 G-Claron coverage on 8x10

I use the 240 G-Claron on 8x10 and can use full rise without any cutoff. FWIW the 240 misses the corners of the frame on the 7x17 by about 1 1/2" where the 305 G-Claron covers with full front rise. All in all a great lens series from Schneider - it's unfortunate they discontinued the line.

    240mm F9 G-Claron coverage on 8x10

Stopped down, the G-Clarons cover way more than the listed circle. I use a 240mm on my 8x10 with no problems. Routinely I shoot at f/22 or more.

    240mm F9 G-Claron coverage on 8x10

Thanks for the replies. I think I will add the 240 G Claron to my 8x10 system.

Lee, I have been absent of late. Teaching and school on top of my job has been pretty intense.

Zoners.... it's a great source of inspiration and support, much like this forum though more related to production and critique of images and projects. Lots of sharing of images. 40 or fewer members right now...

    Steve,

I use the 240 G-Claron on my 8x10 and heartily agree with whats been said---the 240 G is a fine performer on 8x10, I think you'll like it!

    240mm F9 G-Claron coverage on 8x10

At f64 on a piece of 11X14 film the image circle of a 240 g-Claron is 410mm. There is MTF fall off of course and it's not all useable but certainly it's the biggest bargain out there for this length in an 8X10 lens. At least with the Deardorff I've never found the edge which I certainly can do with the 210. Somewhere along the line though I found myself using the 270 G-Claron more than the 240. Both are fine 8X10+ lenses.
