I reshot this just a couple minutes earlier (the shadow grows up from the ground as the sun moves) than the other day:

I like the idea here, specifically the rim lighting at the left.
I wish it could have been similarly lit throughout a greater portion of the photo.
What bothers me is the large hot spot at right-of-center.
But it has the makings of a very good shot.

    Re: Images FOR CRITIQUE

Well, I made the final print last night and cropped in the enlarger like I wish I had done on the negative in the field. I did no additional buring, but I did bump the contrast setting on my LPL from 3.5 to 4 and did some selective dodging on the 4 main leaves. With MGIV in my LPL, developed in dektol and toned in selenium, a #4 contrast setting tests out (as found in Anchell's VC Printing Manual) to a relative ISO RN at 95 (hard grade 2 to soft grade 3). I believe it is better overall, but your thoughts are welcome.

Chuck, I would like to see the three leaves be a bit more equally lit...perhaps the right one burnt down with higher contrast filtering to preserve the highlights, but bringing down the mid-tones and shadows. And keep more shadow detail under the left leaf.

    Re: Images FOR CRITIQUE

Vaughn, I'm finding a slight downgrade in shadow value going from PS Elements, to Flickr, to LFPF. I just went back to PSE, and increased brightness just a bit and it's this latest Flickr upload, I feel the print has the slightly better shadow detail that you describe. That last upload is very close, but, of course, not perfect to the print------it's the best my scanning skills can muster. I guess I'll have to try and save the PSE file to be somewhat more brighter than the actual print to try and offset, IDK.

I appreciate the input, of course, a good calibrated monitor can really help too. I made several "notes" on that last flickr upload in the shadow areas and I'm a bit reluctant to start doing any dodging and burning in PSE (i'm no good at it!) so I just make brightness adjustments.
