    Folmer Graflex wood tripod

I just bought one of these tripods (a #4 to be exact) for my Century Universal. I'm curious what others have done to keep the legs from spreading and the tripod collapsing without destroying the classic beauty of these tripods.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    thanks,
    Mike

A rope or chain can be looped through the legs to keep them from spreading. Long ago a device was available with arms that clamped on each leg, and worked even better. I can't find mine at the moment to see if there is a brand on it.

I have three different sizes of these tripods. One I bought new many years ago. Short lengths of brass chain were the original method of preventing leg separation. Look for tiny screw hole in te sides of the legs to see where the chains were attached.

Mine came with an adjustable brass jig that clamps onto all three legs and keeps them from spreading. You could look for one of those.
