Take two steps back ... take a deep breath ... and re-read the first 5 words of your post ........................ those pretty much say it all.

Since when has something photographically 'crazy' stopped you, Jim?

I think I'd buy a burro to carry the load. Until then I'll stick with 4x5.

Fairly easy hiking like this on decent trails for a few miles, maybe 5 miles tops.
Huuuh, this is the harder way, must check some local gym

Backpacking suggests overnighting and hiking to places more than you can get to in a half-day's trip out and back to the car/resort. Are you really talking about backpacking? Tent, stove, food, water, warm clothing, foul-weather contingency gear?

I mean to backpacking without food, tent, stove, any clothing....Just in local, not overnight.

    I'm 53 yrs old & 165 lbs.
I weigh a bit under 250 lbs fully loaded with camera gear.
My best friend is 60 and weighs about 20 lbs heavier than I do with all my gear, he is the same height as me and weighed 160 lbs until he got into his thirty's and then started gaining weight.

As far as I'm concerned I am taking it easy now so I can still go when I'm in my sixties.
