Elger Esser & Annie Liebowitz - two colour pallette questions

A question about two very different colour pallettes:

    1. Elger Esser - in his LF work, does anyone know how he goes about getting that very transparent, very yellow/warm look to his prints? Almost an antique colour look.

    2. Not usually LF - but on certain of Annie Liebowitz portraits (usually semi-environmental) she has a very cold somewhat blue/green look, but still with failry rich colours (almost like old 1970's ektachrome 400) - any idea what she's doing for that

Have you seen the images in a gallery, or are you talking about a book or on-line ?

"Have you seen the images in a gallery, or are you talking about a book"

both, for esser (for liebowitz - just magazine and book work - it's a fairly distinct look she uses for certain portraits)

most that's online doesn't give a very good approxamiation to the book and gallery prints

but some online here for esser

Hi Tim , it seems to me a matter of filtration in printing. Like the work a lot ...

Elger Esser & Annie Liebowitz - two colour pallette questions

Hi Tim, Many of Elger Esser's 'Landscapes and Vedutas' and his images from 'Etretat – Cap d'Antifer' were made, I think, in very low light before sunrise/after sunset at the time when our perception of colour becomes more monochromatic. Combined with very long exposures and transparency film the colour shifts are very surprising and beautiful. I think it has more to do with the quality of the light he chooses to photograph than any technical trickery - just a very delicate touch. Best wishes.

afaik he uses lambda-prints, mounted behind Diasec and he is working w/ Photoshop excessively.

To me especially his 'Landscapes and Vedutas' and 'Cap d'Antifer' pics look like he always has a 81EF Filter in front of the lens.

    Some pretty strong pics, though.
