Sure does not look like Amidol developer in the darkroom sequence.

you know...maybe that was filmed under infrared for "real" developing, you know...the faces looked washed out kind of in the darkroom scene

I thought at first it was "faked" but...hey...maybe the amidol looks different under IR illumination?

The Ansel Adams gallery http://www.anseladams.com/ offers the Ric Burns PBS posthumous documentary and the more interesting (to me) 1981 60 minute video produced by Andrea Gray and John Huzar. The latter includes human moments of Adams in the darkroom and playing the piano. I've seen the shorter 1957 made for TV video, but don't know of a source at this time. It included a scene of him loading his 8 passenter Cadillac (with platform on the top) with this gear:

The 1957 video was made while Ansel was still living in the family home in San Francisco. It was linked on this forum a few years ago, I believe; perhaps a search will bring it up.

A later TV documentary was made by a local station (KRON) in 1968 after Ansel moved to Carmel. It is not of the greatest quality but might be of interest to Ansel fans:
