    Hot soapy water

The commercial astragon lens i received on the 5x7 handheld camera was very hazy on the front element.

I dismantled the cells and placed in it soapy scolding hot water and gave it a gentle run over the lenses.

By the time it dried the mottled appearance is still etched on the glass but at least it's a lot clearer on the ground glass now.

What techniques do you guys use to clean a mucky lens element?

Want to try this again in a new thread. I'm closing this one.
