Yes with such large sizes required a trip to the grocery store with a ruler might be a good idea. Perhaps a peanut can lid would work well?

Good inspiration here!! I will take out a ruler and go to local supermarket tomorrow. Hope I can find something useful.

Keep in mind that you want the lens cap to be fairly rigid. Because it is so big, if the middle flexes it can rub against the glass of the front element which is not good.
