Yoho/Banff area. Best time to visit?

I've been a few times to this area ice climbing in winter. What would be a good time of year for trekking without mosquitos or snow?

You just missed it. End of August, beginning of September.
Snow levels, if any, seldom drop below 5,000 feet during this time period.
If you want the fall colors of any deciduous trees in the valleys or the Tamaracks, better hurry, the time is now.
Plenty of time to plan for next year.

Thanks Marc. We're considering it for either next year or 2013.

hey pete.... let us, the locals, know when you are coming to visit and maybe we can break bread or share a brown pop! Or take you to a couple of great places for autumn
splendor in the rockies.... taking my miata and big camera out tomorrow to highwood pass.
    See you next year?

Yes, that would be great. It's always good to get some insider info. Perhaps you've some bear spray we could borrow? We bought some whilst in Yellowstone but gave it to a guy in a climbing store on our departure as it wouldn't be allowed on the plane and is probably illegal in the UK.
I know a lady in Canmore called Val. She works for a trekking company and mainly guides in South America. Perhaps you know her?
