I think, whether or not you deliberately channeled Irving Penn, that your focal length is great, just perfect, and refreshingly different.
I used to do a lot of portraits with a 50mm Hasselblad, after a few years I moved up to an 80mm.
The slight wide angle really brings out the form and shape.
Bravo!

My friend Milt offered to bore out a lensboard for me to fit a Compur #2 shutter for my new-to-me Schneider Xenar 180/4.5 (c. 1960). We also tapped the holes for the flange (inexpertly, but good enough). In exchange, I offered a portrait session for Milt and his wife Mary which we did this past Sunday. I ended up only using the Xenar 180/4.5 for all the shots. Here are the 3 that I like the best:


I could do more to reduce the hot spot on the side of Milt's head.
