D-tach, I really like it. I have now been inspired to get a tad closer than I normally do. Thanks....

"Hairston's" came to Virginia back in the 1730's. I believe any blacks with that name can be traced back to slaves on the Hairston plantations.

Lighting was bad, on top of that, I underexposed by at least a stop

Update - I took Mr. Hairston a copy of his picture. He invited me in to see his camera collection - a Polaroid One-Step, some sort of Brownie TLR with BOTH lenses missing, and the highlight - a Kodak Brownie 120 box camera mounted above his front porch light with a length of telephone wire coming from the back of it and running around the side of his house. That, he explained, was his fake surveillance/security camera.

Love the tones in the first two images, nice work in all of them though

I'm going to guess, and be corrected later, maybe.

I think it's two soft boxes, one above and one below the subject. If you look at the catch lights in her eyes, you can see the larger reflection in the bottom, and just slightly see the reflection on the top of the pupil. Two catch lights, two lights (not always true, but I think it is here...)

Beautiful lighting and image. Love it!

    Thx guys!

Correct Graham, big softbox under and small one above at -1EV. although there's not supposed to be a second catchlight I couldn't get close enough with the upper softbox. I don't like more than one catchlight.
