    Durst 184 enlarger

    Durst enlarger
    Hi,

I have a question is this a good enlarger set? I recently started (finally) shooting 8x10 negs and this one came up for a decent price.
    - Durst Color Laborator 184
    - Durst CLS 301 box
    - Durst Lamot 220 electronic bediening
    - Durst Digitim 2000 electronic timer
    - Durst TRA 301 stabilised powersupply
    - Complete set quality lenses
    - Masks for different negatives sizes up to 10x10 inch
    - easel with compressor

I tried searching on google but I am looking for some feedback from users here as well.

the 184 is one of the best 8 x 10 enlargers
The cls 301 light is not. Light output is not much and uneven. It creates a lot of heat. And availability of light bulbs is worrisom.

Which head should I get for this enlarger? Is the head unusable or just not the best there is out there? I don't have the room for it but but for this money I could pass it.

just not the best there is out there but very useble.
remember that a complete set of negative masks is probably worth the effort.

Is the durst 184 the same (more or less) as the L1840?

L1840 is the newer model. CLS300 should be comparable with the other 8x10 dichroic heads out there except the CLS1840/CLS2000.

Thanks I will have a read. Just finished your thread. Interesting read. Can't wait to pick mine up. I have to store it first. Clean out my little room and see if I can fit it in there.

    Re: Durst 184 enlarger

I picked up my enlarger yesterday. It was shown to me in working order and it looks good. Of course it needs a good cleaning but I am happy with the monster. It came like said before with a cls 301 head. The lightbulbs were recently replaced and I got 8 spare lights with it. So I should be good for a while on that area. It came with two diffusor boxes. One for 10x10 and one for smaller formats. Alse he gave me a complete set of lenses...well complete enough for at least. 300 mm, 210 mm, 180 mm, 150 mm, 80 mm, 40 mm. The bigger ones all from keuznach schneider with Durst in red written on it.
Now I have the daunting task of cleaning out and up my room so I can start using the thing. I want to have it up and running before september first. That's when the new year at the art academy starts again.

The lights that are in the enlarger head are 120 volts 250 watts quartzline lamp from general electric. I geuss they did the trick for the previous owner so it'll do it for me as well. Or do I need to put in other lamps?

    Peter,

You might want to have a look to see if the set up includes a 240V to 120V step down transformer, assuming your standard voltage is 240Vac.

Otherwise you might be feeding it more bulbs on a regular basis...

Congratulations. I sounds like a great set up.

    Good luck,

    Len
