    July 2011 portraits

    Ok, it's july again ( already).
    It looks like, the older you get the faster time flies.....

    here are 2 from my last workshop.



    18 x 24 cm
    Dallmeyer 3b open
    exposure time 4 secs
    KCN fixer
    Black glass ambro
    Poorboy (alex) collodion mix

    I shot two versions of this today, and can't decide which I prefer more. I'm leaning toward this one, though...

    Is the short depth of field created by the lens or the process of a wet plate?

    The lens.

    But collodion is very slow so you need fast lenses. They kinda go hand in hand.

    I can see why you like this one, Scott, though I haven't seen the other one... The eyes are lovely, and the soft sidelight simple and elegant. I'd consider cropping just a bit off the bottom; when the arms (or anything else) protrudes a bit closer to the camera than the face, they can appear over-large, and she had her elbows forward. (Just an outside opinion, for what it's worth...)
