Re: Scitex Eversmart Pro II Software + Computer

For those who may do a search in the future, I have been looking for the Ratoc firewire converter and have had no luck. I did find a different brand that does work. It's a 2Wave Technologies adapter p/n 102400-1.

I am having an issue however...when booting the computer in OSX I am doing a new fresh install of the oXygen software. The software is going through it's installation and diagnostic pretty normally, but it ends up hanging up with some kind of a motor error that makes the scanner give a very loud high-pitched whining noise. Eventually a warning error to shut down the scanner and restart the scanner and computer comes up.

I have gone through this cycle 3 times now and it hangs up in the exact same place each time.

    Wondering what's up.

    Anyone?

I've reinstalled the oXYgen Scan software from the CD and now everything is working great. Thanks.

    Hi Michael,

That SCSI to Firewire adapter you mention, 2Wave Technologies adapter p/n 102400-1, is that available from a company?
I thought that it was the original unit Scitex placed into their scanners to move it along with the Firewire connection introduced i the Apple desktop.
If you bought it New, from where did you buy it? I would love to buy one.

    Evan

I found it on eBay. The company is acutally 2nd Wave Technologies. FWIW I paid about $250 for mine. There was more than one on eBay about 2 weeks ago when I snagged it.

BTW I am running Eversmart Supreme SCSI without Firewire gadgets. oXYgen ver. 2.6.0. Perhaps Eversmart Pro II will do also. I have not tried.

Added: but there is a trick.

    Surf,

I'm interested to know what setup you're currently on, that allows you to run SCSI mode on V2.6.0.

      • What is your OS version you are running on?
      • Which computer setup (PowerPC G4 or G5), Mac Intel, or Win Tel?
      • SCSI cable to which SCSI card?
      • Which SCSI cable?

My Eversmart Pro II came with the "Scitex-installed" SCSI to Firewire adapter, the Microtech 2nd Wave Technologies.
At that point when it WAS running, it ran on OS10.2.8.
At some point, it just stopped working.
The last version of software for the Pro II was Ver. 3.2 or later (don't remember the actual version) that allowed FireWire under OS103.5.
OS10.2.8 was the last version for SCSI.

Currently running on OS10.4.11 with Version 2.6.3 with a Ratoc FRS1X on a PowerPC G4. I would love to move up to a PowerPC G5 or even the Mac Pro Intel based desktop.

    Me too.

    • MAC OS 10.2.8
    • G4
    • Adaptec 2906
    • SCSI cable - working SCSI cable. Nothing special.

    H Surf,

As far as I remember for the Eversmart Pro II and any scanners that was still on SCSI, depending on the last software version that Scitex put out that allowed SCSI to be use was on OS10.2.8 Panther (?)

For those scanners that had the Original Scitex installed Firewire Kit, the software went up to Version 2.6.3 for PowerPC on Tiger and Leopard. For Version 2.6.4 which was for the Intel based MACS, I would like to say it would use on Snow Leopard, but I have yet to test that out.

To resolve one of my head alignment, I must have an machine (G4) that would allow Dual Boot of OS9.22 and OS10.411 Tiger or OS10.58 Leopard. That machine would have to be a Dual Processor of at least 1.0ghz....

    Hi Evan,

Dual processor 500 MHz or single 733 MHz are also OK.

Its getting harder and harder to find good working older G4. Hence my personal reason to get as late as possible. Starting from the DP 1.0 GHZ processor and up. Not much of a choice, but then again limited supply out there.
