I am completely new to scanning. I have been told that a negative can be scanned, pinhole corrected, and a new negative can be made. Is this possible and how is it done? I am using a 4x5.

by pinhole you mean physical clear specs in the image density, like from dust during exposure? If so yes, once scanned it's easily spotted, then you'll need to find a good lab with a film recorder to re-output to film if that is your need.
